32mph on flat road. Er bike trail I should say. Terrifying, did a little bit of bouncing on the saddle. 48/16 at that time. Can hit 30mph on my 48/17

forgive my ignorance, what does HRM do for you exactly during training? ive never been able to understand even when i ran a lot
i always just thought it was for knowing when your hr is jacked so youre getting a good workout, but i know its not that stupid

There are books about it. Here's my Cliff's:

When I had one I'd set a low limit alarm on long rides so I wouldn't slack.

For intervals I'd just try to peg it for a couple mins, then wait 'til it got back down before hitting it again OR do straight timed intervals Two mins on one min off, try a set of 10, note HR at the end of each break, compare to last weeks readings. If the HR at then end of your last couple breaks goes down from week to week, you're getting better

I avoid heart rate monitors because I'd just end up trying to set a "high score" with them, too.

Just used my Garmin Forerunner and it said I was topping out at 21 mph with my 44/17 gearing on 700c wheels. My cruising speed is more like 15-16 mph though.

i rode on the west side highway. i think i was able to keep up with the cars for about a good 5-6 secs i am not sure how fast i was going but i ride 42/14 and now i just changed to a 48/14.

I actually don't pay much attention at all to my max speed, or my average speed anymore. It's all about distance now.

I think his gps is trolling him.

Depending on the bike, rider weight and position, and your nerve, it's possible he WAS going that fast.

On my road bike I've passed traffic in a 100km/h zone going downhill riding from Fort Macleod, Alberta to Lethbridge, Alberta - and nobody goes 100km/h in Alberta... nobody. This is one of the windiest areas in North America and I had an average 8% gradient down, with 60km/h tailwinds gusting to over 80km/h.

I was 215lbs of crazy 20yr old at the time in the most ridiculous full tuck I could assume on 700x20c tires.

There is no doubt I was around 110km/h or faster. Clydes who tuck can fly on a downhill with a strong tailwind. This past week I was at 94km/h (about 58mph) on my cycle computer coming back from Elbow Falls on a 3km stretch of downhill with about a 15km/h tailwind.

If we're talking flat roads no wind, my max all-out sprint is a little over 62km/h.

If we're talking uphill - then I get sad. I usually maintain about 15-17km/h max up my local 8% grade hill... slower on longer hills... And I'll have joggers pass me on anything over 14%... =(

Love riding up and down that path.

i usually ride all the way to 125th st where the fairway market is then ride back.

I usually start off around 110 after a few laps in CP and then go down to the Financial District and pick up my friend when she comes in the water taxi from Jersey City. Such a nice ride in the afternoon and evening. Planning to do a perimeter ride around the city soon. :thumb:

Distance is my jam on ly days off. When I work, speed is key becuase I generally sleep too late

When I visit my mom in NH I always bring my bike to bomb down my old road. it. is. always. terrifying. I couldn't even begin to slow my legs with out the bike making it very clear it's going to huck me from the saddle. I run a front brake as well which I couldn't even barely use with out the rear wheel lifting. When I finally got to the bottom a jeep pulled up beside me and said "Dude, you hit 45..."
Turns out it was 44.6
