How many run with a computer?
Just out of curiosity, how many people run with a cycling computer on their SS/FG?
My girlfriend and I, plan on getting a pair and see how many miles we can accumulate over the seasons. Oh, and I can't decide Sigma BC509, Cateye Velo 7 and Specialized speedzone sport wired. (we found an LBS that has one for $19). Which should we get? |
I run the specialized speedzone sport wireless. It does the job, I'm pleased.
picked up a knog nerd 12 when it was on sale for 28 dollars. it's nice having something track your miles. a little extra motivation.
i also liked not having one too though. |
There can't be just 2 people!
I have a Garmin 500. Nice that it can easily transfer from bike to bike.
(I thought this thread was going to be about running. I've used the Garmin for that too but it's not as accurate. I think the bouncing messes up the satellite signal.) |
I have the Sigma BC1009 and it works fine.
I have the Sigma BC509 that you mentioned. It's nice and works well, easily removable too. But I prefer a simple wireless one on my fixed gear so I'm getting the knog nerd soon and using the sigma on a future road bike. All I really care about is miles (distance) and current speed.
Well, I run. And I have a cycling computer on my bike. But I'm unclear how those two statements are related.
i just use strava and my iphone, i want a garmin 500 but cant justify putting it on the bike i have now
I've got a Sigma BC906, picked it up for $15 on amazon. pretty solid.
I use a Blackburn Delphi 4.0. Wireless, and does cadence.
$30 shipped during a sale. |
iPhone and Strava here - both me and my wife.
I've had cyclecomputers in the past. Only use phone + Strava now. Since I have 8 bikes ATM the phone is just easier and even if I had a cyclecomputer I'd mostly have the phone with me anyways, so...
I totally thought this was a jogging thread also. |
wirless speed zone I really like having a computer
I currently have the Cateye Strada with cadence on four bikes, and the Cateye Enduro on two others. The rest of the bikes either don't get ridden enough to justify a cyclometer, or are for the kind of rides where I don't want one.
Cateye Strada wireless on the roadie. Hopefully upgrading to a garmin soon. Then i'll put the Cateye on the track bike.
Garmin Edge 500 on all the bikes (road, track/fixed/hipstertarckmobile, mtb).
Before that it was a Cateye Strada Wireless on the road bike and Strava for my other rides. |
A cheap $20 Bell 15 function computer from Target.
I use Endomondo on my Android phone, and it works great. Strava is good too, but i wasn't into the competitive aspects, and really, I'm just keeping track of things for myself and don't want a public profile.
Garmin 800 that I switch from bike to bike + strava for aggregation.

i find myself making segments just to beat my own best times, it pushes me to not just cruise around all the time at 10 mph although i do wish i still had some friendsies to ride with :( |
garmin 500, love it. sucks to have something so accurate then measure your results against ppl who use iphone apps that really beef up avg speed and elevation. me and my friend did the same route on a sunday right and he had 1400 more feet climbed than me...
Have been using a knog 9 for 3 years. Batteries still going, no issues at all. It is a little bulky but the main selling points for me were super easy to remove in high theft areas, and can be mounted sideways to put on my stem since I keep my bars wrapped all the way up
Ok, so, I ended up getting a Cateye Strada cc-rd100n for $20. Did I do good, I googled for reviews, seems somewhat mixed.
