Is this jackass, or not?

Bought a new stem today, it was cheap and I wanted to be stretched out a tad more. After installing it, I am just not sure if I am jackassing up my bike. It's comfortable though.

Please excuse the messy backround.

If it's comfortable, what does it matter?

TheRealFaux 06-20-12 08:23 PM

jackass? ehhh. ugly? yes.

it doesn't seem like you stretched out your position, if anything made it closer and upright

I went from a 70mm 25° rise, to 90mm 35° rise.

I was under the assumption you had a more level stem to begin with because if that was your previous stem, your bike looked essentially the same as what it looks like now.

Because cycling is all about appearance. Lol, just kidding...

if you trig that up you find you moved your bars forward about 10mm and up about 22mm

I don't mind if my bike is ugly, I just don't want my bike to end up in the jackass thread.

Then subtract 11mm of spacers.

Dannihilator 06-20-12 09:27 PM

It's not jackass worthy.

The jackass thread is for bikes that are completely stupid and built for vanity. Yours is neither

Scrodzilla 06-20-12 09:37 PM

Bullhorns and an upright position are a bit contradictory but hey, it's your bike.

I thought it was upright stem + drop bars; short stem + bullhorns; low angle stem + riser bars are contradicting.

Scrodzilla 06-20-12 09:43 PM

Short stem and bullhorns is actually pretty typical.

alexaschwanden 06-20-12 09:45 PM

Have fun with it.

This.

I'm not saying you shouldn't like it. You asked a question and I'm just sharing my thoughts.

I plan too, if it doesn't work for me, I can always get something different. It was really cheap anyways.

Thanks guys.

Bat56 06-20-12 09:57 PM

I think your bike is too small for you.

Rivendell...

Standalone 06-20-12 11:17 PM

You need a bigger frame. And a thneed.

Ultraspontane 06-20-12 11:22 PM

No. Jackass is running an uncomfortable setup because you think it looks cool.

Frame is just one size small, yes. I wouldn't classify it as too small, everything else is comfortable. The bike is comfortable as it is, I actually was going for more reach, that's all.

muckymucky 06-20-12 11:33 PM

think you just need more back muscles. they'll come. dont rush it.

Leukybear 06-20-12 11:43 PM

All I know is it would be jackass if it was turned the other way. You're doing it right by not killing your back.

Whatever fits... I do like a big frame, though-- I ride a 66
