Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Chicago: urban bikes

i've been meaning to post about this for a while. i used to live in chicago, and lived for a year right down leland about two blocks away from urban bikes. the last couple of times i went back to visit, i noticed the name had changed to uptown bikes. is it still the same shop? is tim still involved (i think that was his name)? i remember getting a lot of good help there from someone named nora when i was converting my nishiki. it was a good shop, and i hope it was just a name change.

It's just a name change... still the same people around.

that's good news. one of the nice things about that place was how involved they were in the neighborhood. maybe the name change is a way to further emphasize that or something.

Well, it's at the Uptown stop. Maybe that's why they changed it?

They are still very involved with the community and have the kids programs there.

They're good people.
