The bean town area is relativity flat! So is Jacksonville, FL.

Right now Columbia's roads are a nightmare to share with drivers, but we're making progress! More bike parking is being added to the city, and part of our Greenway system just opened up:

Indy is really flat and has some decent bike paths in the north. But in downtown, I found it to be a bit sketchy. Had to bike on the sidewalk more than a few times. The canal is a good bike route through downtown.

I've heard that Jacksonville is primarily flat, but Tallahassee has many rolling hills, just like much of North-Central Florida.

Though, I've heard that Florida is flat for the most part, Tallahassee proves that the all the cities in Florida, are definitely not flat.

Therefore, just for confirmation, which cities in Florida ARE flat?

Which ones are really single speed cities?

+1 for Durham

Can find a few hills if you want them, but easy to avoid. The worst are heading south from Duke.

Baton Rouge is flat for the most part with a few bumps here and there nothing really hill like.
as for bike freindly not so much, roads aren't in the best condition and ppl dont know what to do around you. all in all its a fun ride though

I live in Florida. The whole state is basically flat, so you can pick any city you like. St. Pete is nice. Tampa is okay, but I'd not want to live there again (personal pref.). Gainesville is fine with little hills (seriously, not big at all), but there's not much work for anyone past college age. Tally has small hills too and is a total college town, though it's got more going on city-wise than Gainesville. Jacksonville seems nice, though I haven't been there in years. St. Augustine is nice but very small. It's mainly a tourist town--a good place to visit (you can easily cover the whole city in less than a day on a bike).

Yup, St Pete = flat. Unless you want to count the bike trail overpasses ;) - wooo a grueling 30 ft climb!

xavier853 11-27-12 05:39 PM

cbus is a >80gi city

maidenfan 11-27-12 06:42 PM

I'll chime in for Portland, Or. It's a valley - north/south for flats and east/west for hills. And, you can't beat some of the most cyclist friendly streets in the country.

PS - over 70 brew pubs and micro breweries in town. Probably close to that in bike shops too.

jdgesus 11-27-12 10:07 PM

yeah, its pretty awesome to ride bikes in portland

ColtJ 11-27-12 10:22 PM

Located in Miami, it's pretty flat.

Training.Wheels 11-27-12 10:29 PM

Would anyone agree San Jose is pretty flat? I feel like it is.

Nagrom_ 11-27-12 10:30 PM

Most parts are, yeah.

Dannihilator 11-27-12 11:20 PM

Still need to have hills...
