Recommend me an inexpensive wheelset for a conversion

And by inexpensive, I mean bottom of the barrel price, but not crappy wheels. I am probably going to do a conversion with an old Schwinn, but don't want to mess with the hubs and wheels, so if I do it, it will probably be with a new set of wheels.

Just wondering what you guys can recommend in this situation. Like I said, the cheaper the better, but I don't want a set of wheels that going go fall apart riding around town either.

Thanks.

Just buy anything off those sites or what?

I guess I was hopping for a little more specific recommendation...

Go on velomine and check out a weinmann dp-18 + formula wheelset. You will be looking at around $100 for a new wheelset.

If you can spare $200, then velocity deep v + formula.

what is inexpesnsive to you? $400 was inexpensive to me so it is all relative to the person.
what are you doing with the bike? city driving, potholes, going off curbs? or will you be cruising or desiring a lighter wheel?

I am no expert but for option 1 (city etc) I would go with deep v to formula from velomine (about <$200)
for light weight I would go with wabi wheelset <$200

-Cheers

Riding will be on city streets, so I am much more worried about toughness than I am about weight. And inexpensive is definitely under $200 for a set of wheels to me. I am a casual / fitness rider. My Gary Fisher was $1200 new, but this project is on the cheap.

Deep V to Formula looks like the way to go, there looks like there is even a couple on sale in the $150 range on there. I need to measure the Schwinn so see what the spacing on the rear forks is. Its nice that Velo Mine will add the spacers for you to fit your bike.
Thanks a ton guys. Keep 'em coming if anybody has anything to add.

So if I reaallly don't care about weight, and want durability, do I go with the B43's?

i've heard they are bit overkill and the deep v's will suffice on toughness without adding more weight.

I think IRO Cycle had their wheelset at about $199 last time I checked. Exactly the same specs as a Velocity Fusion. I found them pretty bulletproof, and I weigh a bit over 200lbs.

Ask Dave to special order the MSW versions if you have brakes.

Good call.
I'll be doing the same once I get my next paycheck.
Don't forget to pickup some rim tape.

Well velomine is out of stock of the wheels I want. Bummer. Anyone know how often that happens and/or how often they restock? It's not twice a year like BD is it?

I like the Wabi set too but I wish they had black hubs and a non machined rear. I like the weight savings over the deep v set, but at only 1 pound (basically) savings - I think I'd rather get the deep v's I want.
