While browsing the net I came across this bike company.

Does anyone have any experience with their bikes?

I have experience telling people they're complete crap. Does that count?

^ have you ever ridden one? Cause I've ridden the Matte Black, older model for 1 1/2 years before building my first custom ride. State Bikes are not so bad. I bought it and rode the hell out of it, over time I swapped out parts. I bought SRAM's for it along with new bars, wheels etc. It was a completely different bike. Now I'm switching some of those parts to my new build I'm doing. If your interested I can sell you my Frame and fork for cheap. But honestly they bikes aren't bad for a first ride.

If you're getting into it, not much better. AMAZING customer service.

That said, I've never bought anything more than parts from then, but I had a few issues and odd requests, and they got it all sorted out.

Most people who say things like this have never even seen one in real life. Dude, you ride a Lager. How much better - or even different - do you think your frame is from what State is offering?

State Bikes really aren't as bad as most people like to make them seem and I've heard they are a good company to deal with, customer service-wise. Yeah, they offer "fixies" in a bunch of sweet "colorways" but I've seen/worked on a few and they are many steps above other generic crap (like Republic, Big Shot, etc).

Also, the Contender seems like a decent bike and it's good to see them stepping it up a bit.

I'll support any company that hires retired models. The modeling industry and it's obsession with youth and skinniness is destroying the self-image of our young people.

Props to State Bicycle for using retired models to showcase their goods!

A friend had one when they first came out. It was heavy, and the components were complete garbage. I haven't seen any of the new ones, so maybe they've changed. Also, I know I ride a ****ty bike, but it is at least chromoly and not hi-ten. If they've improved over what they were, and aren't on the level of Big Shot or Republic any more, awesome.

I have one, just one of the basic ones not the contender. its a nice bike

i removed most of the bars ot shipped with, got bontrager drops, 3T arx a cane creek front brake to replace the off brand one that came with it.

no one will be like OH WOW that is a state bicycle with a bunch of old school parts on it that nobody runs on the track anymore.
but that is the goal isn't it? you can putz around town on them without even locking it up! try that with one of the bikes they post in here or anything in celeste with Bianchi plastered on it

Hate to bring back a thread this old, but I figure that's what the search function is for anyway.

Anyone know anything about the State Pista Bars? I've been wanting track drops, but want to try out a less expensive model before going with something higher end, and these seem to fit the bill at $40. But I can't find anything on their website that says what size (clamp, width) the bars are. Anyone know?

I'm building up another frame and am a bit bored with my bullhorns, so I was planning to put them on the project and get track drops for my main ride. And honestly, I'm choosing track drops over road drops mainly for aesthetics. They look better than road drops in my opinion, and it's my bike, so yeah. But I'm also aware they ride pretty differently, so I don't want to get an expsensive bar yet until I know I like them.

state bicycle bars and stems are heavy...real heavy

like i had an itm and a b123 track drop on a VISP i bought used

and the bars alone were twice as heavy as the stem and nitto bars on the VISP

I guess I don't have a sense of truly lightweight components then, because I did order the State bars and I don't notice any particular heft to them. They feel sturdy and I think I like the change from the Profile pursuit bars I was using.
