Question about bike discount.

Hi, newbie here. I am just curious is there a big difference between a old bike and a new bike? What I am saying is that for instance, one of my local bike shop is lowering some of their 2010 fixie by half price, so my question is it because of the deterioration of the bike quality or just simply because of stock clearing? Would the 2010 bike still be as functional as they were considering they were brand new?

Thanks.

That is a good way to get a new bike.
Mine was almost 2 years old, still new, and came with the new warranty.

Nagrom_ 08-14-12 10:46 PM

They're just clearing stock.

Generally - stock clearance. Not deterioration.

Just as functional.

Thanks guys for such a quick reply. I found a Marin Ignacio 2010 in my LBS with 40% discount. Marin was never a famous brand here in aus, so is it a reputable brand in the State?

Seeing how Marin bikes was established in San Anselmo, California - Marin County, I'd say it may be a bit more popular over here than there :)

One of the first mountain bike manufacturers, very reputable.

Ya from what I see on their website, most of their offerings are MTB focused. The problem is Marin Ignacio 2010 is SS/Fixie, so....? Well since it has a decent reputation in the US, I think I might ended up getting the bike.

Yes great question. Well due to them sitting on the lot for 2 years I would say it needs a few things.
1. change all the fluids
2. check all hoses
3. check brakes
4. check plugs and coils
5. perform compression test

wait this is a bike forum....why would a bike go bad sitting in a air conditioned store?

Yes, they have a "best if sold by" date. These 2010 bikes are about to spoil.

Grab the Marin, but get it in a size 61 because they shrink over time. If it doesn't fit you, that just means that it spoiled from being too old. Send it to me, and I'll dispose of it for you.

Bike shrinks over time? For real O.O? Never though of it before.

tomatsu 08-15-12 07:48 PM

If you bought it new in 2010, wouldn't you still be using it now? Unless the bike shop was flooded or something, you're good.

Peeps are joking. Bikes can be ridden for countless years if they're properly taken care of.

jimmytango 08-15-12 08:05 PM

Yeah man, we are yanking your chain. Buy it, ride it, and take care of it.

Are you sure you're talking about the right forum...?

I think so, why? Well comparing to some oz based forum, that statement is not an overstatement at all :D

But, you're saying that this place is welcoming. Well I'll be damned. Miracles can happen

Nagrom_ 08-15-12 09:27 PM

I mean... we may all be dicks, but we respond fast, and sometimes answer questions.

glad you're a good sport, enjoy your new bike :)

jimmytango 08-15-12 11:05 PM

Wow, yeah, the only one I can think of that's worse than this is the Chicago Fixed Gear forum. It's a bunch of ********, and lile two cool people.

Get the bike. Ride the **** out of it. Have fun.

seau grateau 08-15-12 11:07 PM

Most local fixed gear forums are full of dicks in my experience.
