Chrome vs DZR shoes
 

I just picked up a set of SPD's and need to get shoes. My everyday shoes are getting pretty damned worn down, so I'm looking to get a set that look good on and off the bike. I dig the aesthetics of the DZR Minna, but I'm kind of worried about sizing. They top out at 47, and I generally wear a 48-49 depending on the company. Chrome Kursk Pro comes in size 14, which is my size, but I've heard that the quality on them isn't as good.

Should I just grab Chrome, try and see if I can fit DZR, or is there another option I'm not seeing?

Try them on first if possible. The chrome shoes run really narrow.

Chrome KP are great. I like them a lot and have held up great

They are actually perfect for me, as I ride more than walk in them. The sole is quite stiff. That's great for bike but can be les than ideal when walking.
They are fine for walking but if they are loose, I can see heel slip happening.

The bothersome thing is the weight of the shoe for walking (spd cleat/stiff shank). Maybe b/c i'm used to wearing lightweight kicks.

dzr are more flexy so if you walk a lot, those might be better.

My feet are kinda narrow, so that may not be an issue. I plan on hitting an LBS that carries DZR and the Chrome store this weekend, so they will be tried on.

I will only be walking in them when not at work, so not often. I'm also used to light shoes.

How is the durability? I'm ridiculously hard on shoes (my Samba classics lasted six months before getting holes in the soles, and my five month old Onitsukas are falling apart ) so I'd want the more durable of the two. They won't be worn at work, so I don't have to worry about that.

they seem pretty durable to me but i'm not hard on shoes.
they are canvas so that may wear faster than leather... but i've used mine thru rainstorms, all over-general use and don't particularly take any care and have held up.

Sole is pretty thick so I can't imagine you would burn a hole thru the soles...I can't imagine how you could on the KP since the cleat is there.

i havent used either but when i checked them both out in stores the DZR was noticeably stiffer than the chrome shoes.
the dzr also had padded inner unlike the chrome which are essentially canvas chuck taylors with a cleat on the bottom

would seem that dzr would be better for performance and comfort on the bike, and chrome would be better for lightweight and comfort off the bike

I'm using the SPD Chromes right now, the low top one whichever that is.

They're pretty good for walking around. Your calves/tendons will hurt for a couple days if they need to stretch out to make up for the stiff sole. The cleats aren't as recessed as DZR so they click, particularly on gritty pavement.

Mine started to fray after about a month and a half.
The Sole is trying to pull away from the canvas in some areas
The area where the cleat bolts down isn't hard enough so if you try to offset it side to side it will dig in to the plastic sole more to one side and angle the cleat.
The cleat position isn't infinitely adjustable like the DZR/shimanos. you have two positions and that it. probably fine, but whatever.
The sole is super soft, if you're used to being lazy and heel stopping your bike you'll wear through the sole in about a month.
One of the vent hole metal peices fell off in like two days, haha. whatever.


All that being said, I think everything I hate about them I hate just because its a compromise of having a shoe I can wear all day instead of a big kids bike shoe. I'll probably try DZR next just to see how they hold up but I'll definitely be buying a big kids road shoe with look cleat first.

These look amazing. But you can't walk in these right?

Asics makes a "Keirin" model that is similar, with a regular rubber outsole. Mixed reviews on them though.

fwiw, eggbeater cleats don't click much at all on the kp's.

They look rad as hell, but they don't make them big enough.

i love my mission workshop dzr's but i have seen a lot of people have problems with quality control lately so i'm not recommending them until the replacements see some wear...
