We all have dealt with flipping the bike upside down and pushing/pulling the wrench to torque the nuts. It isn't a problem.
I will try to be helpful. let's see 1) try screwing the nuts all way to the frame before centering so getting them tight doesnt take much turning 2) center the wheel - easy because you have the built in centering screws 3)get the nuts finger tight and double check the wheel is still centered and chain tension is how you like- adjust centering screws and wheel as necessary 4) take your wrench and tighten both nuts evenly. Evenly, meaning screwing one side a little then the other until they are both sufficiently tight assuming your track nuts are good you shouldnt have a problem |
Tighten the wheel using axle nuts, first. THEN use the chain tug/tensioner as a backup. I don't use the chain tensioner to set the wheel.
The purpose of the chain tensioner is not to set the wheel. The purpose is to keep the wheel from sliding forward under heavy load like climbing or sprinting. |

I would really like to move on from this, but since people keep bringing it up I feel the need to respond. When I said what carleton did was an abuse of power, I didn't mean that only mods can post insulting/condescending jpegs. What I meant is that, as a mod, he shouldn't. It's not really fair to insult someone who can't do anything in return without fear of being banned. If someone is in a position of power it's their responsibility to set an example for everyone else. It would be like me going around at the school where I teach humiliating all the students knowing that they could never say anything back to me or I could just suspend them. That, to me, is an abuse of power.
Jesus, toughen up kid. |
I don't think it's ever taken more than 15 seconds to install my rear wheel.

Stop turning your bike upside down. It's easier with the rubber side on the floor.
