Do you like sushi or ravioli better? Base your choice on the answer.
I'd go Italian all the way baby.
I'm surprised two people are in this conundrum in a two-week period.

carleton did you ever run the DAs? I'm very close to pulling the trigger on some. I assume you've moved onto those cranks with the power meter though?

Actually, DA cranks are on my bike right now. I just moved to a new crank length for next season and put my DA cranks (in the new length) on till I buy some SRM crank arms in that length.
But, seriously, unless a person is really strong, they won't feel the difference. It's like buying the "very best road running shoes available" to walk to class in. If that's the case, buy what functions well and looks nice. This really opens up your options. But, if DA look best to you, then that's a good reason, too.

I too plan on splurging on some DA cranks. Is there any reason to buy new over ones that are lightly used? There's a ton on eBay for about $150 in decent shape and I can't really justify spending over twice as much to save a few buffable scratches.

I guess what I'm asking is if the threads are still in good shape and the finish looks good, would keirin use have any negative effects on them structurally that I can't see?

I wouldn't think so. Just be prepared to refinish them.

Yes. DA are my favorite. I actually prefer them to my power meter cranks. The DA cranks are a little more forgiving than SRM cranks. It's an easy swap as my SRM cranks use the same DA BB.

i'll take the pista cranks all day long over the DA cranks. of course that's just the euro snob in me coming out. i've now got close to 1k miles on my new bike with them, and they are just wonderful.

let me tell you - it eats me up inside that i'm running shimano pedals on all of my road bikes, but the truth is, they are simply the best pedal for me that i've ever used. cant beat them.

i recently got a record pista crankset. now i am shopping for a bottom bracket & due to it being temporary while i save to buy my dream frame, am not willing to invest big bux in the matching campy bb yet.
i was convinced that this crank is symmetrical but upon further research (going to campagnolo's site...duh) i found:
Technical Specifications
axle L. 111 mm (asymmetrical) - composite and light alloy cartridge - light alloy cups - without sealings
axle L. 111 mm (asymmetrical) - composite and light alloy cartridge - light alloy cups - without sealings
now i find that i might have screwed myself. the only other asymmetrical 111mm iso bb i can find is phil wood, which leads me to some questions...
@AngryScientist, or anybody else, to your knowledge - does a budget priced asymmetrical bb that works with the record pista crankset exist?
if not - could cheaper campy bbs like veloce or centaur do the trick?
or - would it be disastrous to use a symmetrical iso bb like this token, which i've found several places, for a while?
thanx in advance for any help...

i too was unaware that the required BB is asymmetrical, but now that i look at the campy tech docs, it certainly looks like it is.
that said, i'm pretty positive that it isnt offset by much at all, in the range of < .5 - 2 mm. that's pretty insignificant. i know there are people running symmetrical bb's on these. it depends on your frame (chainstay) clearance, if that can handle the slight offset, i wouldnt worry about it, your legs will never know the difference in such a small offset.
