Just heard back from BD and they said new kilo tts or timelines won't get in until after the new year.

Do any other stores carry these bikes? If not I am probably just going to grab this and possibly upgrade down the road if I see fit. http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...rome_paint.htm

diff 09-20-12 05:07 PM

Go with the moto track. For $279 you can't beat it.

fluent 09-20-12 05:11 PM

Yea was just looking at that one on BD. I love that there are no logos on them.

What are the cons of that bike (since it's so cheap and I don't see it mentioned on these forums that much).

I just bought that one (in shiny black), and it's legit - both brakes came with it. I'll warn you mine came with one of the front dropouts crushed, so shipping can have its dangers. LBS straightened it out no problem though, and BD gave me a small refund for it.

So I guess it comes down to 2 options: Kilo TT or Motobecane Track.

Pricepoint on motobecane track is definitely nice, but what makes the Kilo TT worth over $100 more?

I bought the Windsor Hour about a year ago(same price-point as the Track, and similar geometry from what I've read). Zero complaints(other than having to switch out the ridiculous 15t cog). I wouldn't really want anything with a more aggressive geometry. I can't speak for the Kilo TT but its' pretty much the standard recommendation around here.

If you have the $$$, I would say go for the Phantom Cross Uno - Its just much more versatile than a stripped-down track bike would be. I kind of wish I could run beefier tires so I could ride on some tamer trails/crush stone lanes etc.

fluent 09-20-12 06:26 PM

Thanks SSbalt and everyone else that has replied.

So the motobecane track only comes with a back brake. What are the downsides to that? I mean I don't see myself ever using a front break.

I guess I should also mention I want a single speed.

Thoughts?

diff 09-20-12 06:49 PM

For a single speed commuter, the fantom cross is better for you.

First of all, the moto track is a stripped down track bike as mentioned. Only water bottle mounts. No rack, no fender, no housing stops for brakes.

The fantom cross uno will fit large tires, has rack mounts, guides for brakes, and comes with your freewheel and dual brakes out of the box.

On a side note, I ordered from bikes direct before and package was perfect. Only complaint was the front wheel needed to be majorly trued. And they never fed the brake cables through the brake levers, yet they were fed through the caliper and had a crimp on it. Which made no sense.

Scrodzilla 09-20-12 06:50 PM

If you want a single speed, you will need a front brake. A rear brake only on a single speed bike is damn near worthless here in the physical world where we all reside.

fluent 09-20-12 07:00 PM

So it looks like the kilo TT and the clockwork are the only options. Out of the bikes that are available.

Scrodzilla 09-20-12 07:09 PM

Yea that is another option too, though I don't know if I need the wide tires for anything.

I did some research in these forums and people are saying the clockwork is big compared to other bikes. There is a 54cm available right now on bd.

Here are my measurements

Inseam 31 inches
Trunk 26 inches
Forearm 13 inches
Arm 27 inches
Thigh 23 inches
Lower Leg 22 inches
Sternal Notch 59 inches
Total Body Height 72 inches

Will 54cm work? Or do I need a larger frame?

Nagrom_ 09-20-12 07:37 PM

you're results would be much more helpful....

The fit calculator that you used will actually calculate your fit. Its crazy.

Plug those measurements into the fit calculator and show us your calculated fit.

fluent 09-20-12 07:46 PM

Yea I just uploaded a screenshot of them in my previous post.

Now post the geometry charts for the bicycles you are considering.

Nagrom_ 09-20-12 07:53 PM

good man.

I'd put you on the 56cm for sure.

So 54cm is probably going to be too small?

Nagrom - Thanks a lot for helping me.

I would also get the phantom cross instead.... so you should post that geo chart too.
Post all your options, so you can get sized now, and not have to start another thread when you actually decide to buy.

Here is the Kilo TT . Attached is the Uno

Sizing: (c-c = center to center seat tube, c-t = center to top, TT = top tube c-c)

44cm (c-c) is 47cm(c-t) with TT of 503mm* and standover of 28.5 inches*
47cm (c-c) is 50cm(c-t) with TT of 513mm and standover of 29 inches
50cm (c-c) is 53cm(c-t) with TT of 523mm and standover of 30.4 inches
53cm (c-c) is 56cm(c-t) with TT of 548mm and standover of 31.5 inches
55cm (c-c) is 58cm(c-t) with TT of 565mm and standover of 32 inches
57cm (c-c) is 60cm(c-t) with TT of 575mm and standover of 33 inches
60cm (c-c) is 63cm(c-t) with TT of 606mm and standover of 34 inches
63cm (c-c) is 66cm(c-t) with TT of 630mm and standover of 35.5 inches
(*estimated measurements of new size)

fluent 09-20-12 08:12 PM

I guess for the TT the 53cm would make sense?

Nagrom_ 09-20-12 08:17 PM

I'd put you on a 55cm Kilo and a 56cm Uno.

The main measurement you're worried about is the top tube.

fluent 09-20-12 08:26 PM

Thanks so much. You guys are awesome.

Nagrom_ 09-20-12 08:27 PM

You have to post pics when you get it though.

And they have to be posted in the right thread.

diff 09-20-12 08:39 PM

Wait, are you sure you have measured correctly? I would measure once again and use centimeters. There is no way every part of you is solid inches. Based off the charts, you have a super long torso / arms compared to legs. Doesn't look right to me.

Measure again, with cm. Get as accurate as you can. If you are 41.25cm in a measurement, that is what you use.

Your inseam is 31 inches. Then standover of a 55cm kilo is 32 inches. Which means trying to straddle the bike will have you dangling your feet off the ground.
