This stuff is awesome: http://bontrager.com/model/05048

No padding. Super grippy. Made for use on aerobar extensions where padding isn't needed. Also made for carbon bars, some of which absorb vibration very well and padding isn't as necessary.

Whatever LizardSkins are considered.

LizardSkins comes in at least 2 (maybe 3) different thicknesses.

I prefer the thinnest.

not sure if its possible on this forum but you should have added a POLL to the discussion.

I prefer bar tape that is a bit thicker in addition to wearing padded gloves.

What problem will a poll solve?

I think that most people will evaluate the pros and cons of each offering and decide what to get based on what works for their particular situation...not just what is popular.

What if people bought music that way?

When doing this there is no need to mention what bar tape you use. Doing this because I have noticed over the years that the thinner type of bar tape has meshed better with me than the cushier bar tapes have. Though to be fair, I also prefer to use a glove with no gel padding in it.

I'm so glad that you didn't call this "The Bartape Thread".

So glad.

Really.

Thank you.

Ok dude, no need to over think everything each person types.

seems they just wanted to know what is preferred, so a poll would help them, since its is common knowledge that studies are backed by data.
I never said there was a problem, just stating that they should have added it.
And of course I agree 100%, each person will get tape that suites their needs, as I have done, but in regards to this specific discussion, just data was requested.

Cheers,

and also, unfortunately, people do purchase music this way. look at what is the top selling stuff these days.

thick and cushy, padded gloves.
i wouldn't say i have huge hands, but definitely longer than average fingers

ben4345 09-20-12 03:23 PM

Thick, but doesn't need to be cushy. No gloves unless it;s too cold.

Wil 09-20-12 03:30 PM

Cork bar tape, I love the way leather gloves grip cork. I prefer tapes where the edges taper thinner for a more seamless wrap, but thicker in the middle for better cushioning. I like being able to vary the cushiness of the wrap by wrapping the tape tighter, or closer together. I prefer very light cushioning in my gloves and only around the ulnar nerves.

hairnet 09-20-12 03:30 PM

I use thick tape just for the added bar diameter. If bars came in a wider diameter all the way around then I would shoot for thin tape. I always use gloves, no padding though.

I've tried this stuff intermittently with my ltd's on my primary and it's very grippy indeed, quite deceivingly so considering its lack of thickness. However it left me asking for more in the shock absorption area.

Pretty much dead on in all cases. WW. Also, a poll doesn't preclude discussion in comments.

another part of the thin tape, no gloves (unless cold) crowd here

solipsist716 09-20-12 05:13 PM

I've been swearing by the mid-thickness lizradskins for a while on all my bike for a while now.

cobrabyte 09-20-12 05:16 PM

Thinner tape
gloves sometimes; depending on the shape of the bar

LesterOfPuppets 09-20-12 08:28 PM

Umm, medium I guess. I don't like cloth tape and I don't like gel tape, had a couple of bikes in the shop with double wrap on and yuck!

Standard Cinelli cork suits me. Easton Velo tape and Deda Carbon are also nice to me.

I'm usually gloveless down to 50 degrees or so.

hockeyteeth 09-20-12 08:34 PM

Thin (cloth tape, lately). No gloves.

McRussellPants 09-20-12 08:46 PM

Zipp tape for life. All about grippy thin tape.

stryper 09-20-12 10:19 PM

I usually keep a layer of cheap, used, torn, old cork tape on my bars and wrap a fresh cork tape over that, so double cushy. It's not as much the cushy (although i do find it nice) but to increase the bar diameter. I grip better on something a bit larger around (no innuendo) even though my hands aren't very large. I wish 31.8 bars didn't taper down from the middle. If they stayed 31.8 all the way around I'd be much happier running 1 layer of tape.

catonec 09-20-12 10:34 PM

2 layers of thin w/lightly padded gloves

tonythomas 09-20-12 11:21 PM

Cushy, although I don't like the way the profile on the bars looks. I ride a 3Ren or Nagasawa to work and back in NYC 6X a week (approx 13 miles r/t) and I appreciate the shock absorption on the sometimes bumpy city streets. Probably more than most of you guys because I'm old (48). Cheap street vendor poly pro gloves or thin runners gloves when it's cold, but those aren't for cushioning - primarily to keep my hands from drying out and cracking and bleeding into patrons' drinks when I'm serving.

Dannihilator 09-23-12 08:24 PM

At this moment I have Fizik microtex on the 930 and couldn't be happier.

sharmaji 09-24-12 09:26 AM

thin w/ gloves. didn't think i'd like the fizik stuff but it's pretty great over the last 500 miles or so...

CJWIZVRDGVNG 09-24-12 03:12 PM

my favorite setup was on my road bike...thin tape that wasn't grippy on 31.8 bars with no cable routes. only problem is they'd get slick with sweat without gloves.

phillybill 09-24-12 03:23 PM

thick and spongy ..... sometimes even a double wrap
