I'm failing to see the logic. Losing control at any speed is gonna ****ing suck.

Not a hard thing to understand. The odds of losing control at low speeds are less likely to happen. So imo front brake was enough for the type of riding I was doing SS.

http://sheldonbrown.com/brakturn.html explains this very well, too. To the OP, just a front brake is perfectly fine to stop your single speed bicycle promptly and efficiently, provided it does not fail. The risk is up to you. |
Can't read, don't want to.

I find it funny that so many people get up in arms about single brake set-ups on freewheels while simultaneously riding brakeless fixed gears. Considering all this talk about braking effectiveness, wouldn't a single speed with a front caliper brake really be safer than a brakeless FG (a bike that effectively has one inefficient rear brake) and only nominally less safe than a FG with a front brake? If the rider doesn't know how to slow down effectively, the "braking" benefits of a fixed gear are basically null.

I didn't ramble on, he asked me a question so I answered. Had he not asked, I would've left it at meh, **** it.

If you're talking about me, I rode a double brakes on my fixed, and took the brakes off when I retired it to the track.
