Need Advise Regarding Velocity Chukkers
 

Hi all, I recently bought a Jamis Sputnik SS/FG bike and for peace of mind, I am wanting to upgrade the rims. I can get a pair of Velocity Chukkers for a really good price. I am a bigger guy (Clyde) at about 250 pounds and I just want the peace of mind with strong built wheels, especially since I always carry a bag with a heavy kryptonite lock.

I've been searching and haven't found much regarding the Chukkers. Will I have problems with the wheels fitting my brakes? I know they're a bit wider than Deep V's. Thanks in advance!

The Chukker is a beefier version of the Deep V designed for trick riding. They're heavy and overkill for most applications but bombproof.

You should have no trouble with your brakes after a quick cable adjustment.

They were designed for polo, and then people realized they are great for trick riding too. They are heavy, but strong as hell. If you have a lot of wheel issues I would look into them. But there are a lot of strong wheels out there.

There are a lot of new rims out there that are 23mm wide, and no problems with brakes, I cannot imagine 1 more mm being an issue.

I guess i'm not too heavy but then I also don't like to worry about things. I just really like the peace of mind. At 250 pounds, would I be better suited for a Deep V wheels? Are they strong enough? The thing is, they're all pretty much near the same price. I just want to make the right choice.

I always felt like the main benefit of Chukkers was that they can accommodate wider tires. Deep Vs would probably be fine, provided they're well built.

What size tires are you gonna ride? 32 or less, deep V is good. 35 or more go for the chukkers. Deep V itself is bombproof. Chukker even more.

I'll probably be riding 28-32. I haven't tried a 32 yet on my bike so if that works, I would prefer a bigger tire. By the way, I do run brakes because I have some aching knees.

I ride 28's on my Chukkers with no problems whatsoever.
