Ouch My Toe Knuckle Hurts
I recently built up a new track bike after taking a hiatus for a while.
However, after the first couple days of riding I seemed to have "bruised" the bone in my right big toe (on top, over the ball of my foot) from skidding and braking. I am riding All City plastic clips with standard double straps on Origin8 Pedals. My foot size is 13 so I'd imagine the clips/straps are barely giving me the positioning I need. Also, my toe seems to be taking quite a while to heal, even after staying off the bike for a while. My question is... do Pro Grip velcro straps work better? In terms of distribution over your foot when braking? http://www.origin-8.com/?page_id=91&...531&cl1=PEDALS And also, will the ProGrip 1's fit my Origin8 track pedals? Ive have read, in a few places, that they do and do not. Something about a 14mm strap width not fitting through the pedals. I used to ride all the time without this problem. I am finding some difficulty finding a solution without purchasing the endless combination of pedal/strap/cage choices out there. Any help will be appreciated. FYI - I am running a 48/17 ratio. |
You could get bigger clips or better pedals

I can't comment of the strap issue, but if you've bruised or irritated the bone, then it will take a while to heal. Bone takes quite a while to bounce back. You'll be sore for a while.

I agree. It would be best to sell your bike and buy DJ equipment.

You should give straps a try. I stopped midskidding cuz my All City plastic clips were sized perfectly for pedaling but apparently too small for midskidding (med clips, size 8 shoes) so my left foot kept coming out during sweet skidz. It also kinda hurt too since the pressure was more on the front of the foot rather than a larger area. Bigger clips would have fixed this, but I'd rather rock my size. In my opinion it's easier to skid in straps anyways.

When I see the words "midskid" all I think is:

Did someone say moose knuckle?
|
^^ Dude! That's all I see when I look at this thread title
Edit: Get a wider saddle? |
Conflating camel toes and moose knuckles will do it every time.

A narrower clip might help. Plastic clips seem to hit some unusual pressure points because they're wider on the top of your foot. With a narrower clip, you're mostly just feeling the strap. Example:

if you rotate your foot in the cage a bit it makes the world of difference. my fave vans have an eyelet that digs into the top of my foot when i stop. after bruising my foot i realized if i rotate my heel a bit, that part doesnt rub at all.
