Do I have regrets now on buying the frame? Would I do it again? I do have some regrets.. I try to be a pratical person. The frame is beautiful, I expect it to ride great and will surely out preform me. But it doesn’t fit the riding I do....A good bike with out a good cause. Would I do it again? The deal on the frame was that it raised money for Torrin’s AID’s ride. So, no regrets in that respect. Also, I’ve learned once again to think through decisions instead of going with gut and some extra cash...When it’s done, it will surely be pretty awesome. But it may never receive the love of bieng used and worked hard like my current worker does. That’s the sad part.

Will, I understand it's tough when you have a new expensive steed. You want to baby it. You want to shine it up and impress your mates (And it WILL be impressive with those white rims!) But yeah, that bike deserves to be ridden. It deserves scratches like you deserve scars. It deserves a wash and a relube like you....anyway, you get the point. :D

Build it up, ride it at Alleycats. Ride it anywhere you damn well like. If you need to clandestine it, rip the decals off, bust out the electrical tape. Go a special occasion? fark, I'll send you some new decals - just rip the tape off and put 'em on, polish her up and you're away.

As for the tubing, it's the same tubing as on my singlespeed mtb which I just endo'ed last weekend. Bike is fine, my knee is foobar'd and looks like last nights pizza. Brake lever slammed into the top tube. Not a scratch. (except for the decal).

That bike deserves to be enjoyed man. Don't be afraid. RIDE IT!

(Oh, before you go ripping any decals off, don't forget to e-mail some pix of the complete bike once you got it built! :) )

which brings me to make the following observation about delayed gratification...
it sucks!
i can't say i've ever in my life been so excited for something so far away. i mean, buying a house, going on a vacation, none of those are delayed quite this long. it's been making me think about pregnancy, really, since that's 9 months of delayed gratification, if you want the child, that is. then again, that's something i never plan to do and will thus be unable to truly compare. so alas, the wait for my frame shall be a new, bold experience. many beers will be drunk between now and the arrival, and many will be toasted in the direction of its arrival, and it shall come anon. and there will be much celebration. and possibly snow on the ground. or at least that nasty dc slush crap.

Chimblysweep..........yeah, I heard that you had one in the upcoming line-up, and I look forward to painting it.Congrats! It's exciting for me to have a new frame to work on every few weeks. It's kinda like having it for myself for a little while. Lotsa drooling and some envy, to be sure.
Regarding pregnancy/ immediate gratification issues. I've often wondered, in this day and age, why someone hasn't figgered out how to speed up that whole process. I mean, every facet of American life seems to be based on streamlining, efficiency, and a speedy pace..............sometimes with disregard to the consequences.Can't you picture someone whining to their OBGYN about having to be preggers for 9 whole months? " Doc, can't you give me a pill that'll speed things up? .......I'm thinking that 3 months fits my schedule a little better" . A bun in microwave instead of the oven.

that's a little disturbing. i think most people need the 9mos to figure out how to change diapers and to scratch together the cash for all the crap you have to buy with one of those things.

waiting 8 mos for a bike, on the other hand, gives me an opportunity to build new wheels for it, but that's about it. there's no obscene amount of reading or classes or learning or prep. i already have a home for it. (basically, it's taking over the surly's space.)
