you just heated the area where the decal was, and then what? use a plastic spatula to pull it up? that sounds promising. the white paint job is pretty forgiving; i already managed to pretty much completely hide a few deep scratches using rubbing compound

What can work nicely with white bikes is color block the decal itself with a matching white paint, then cover with cool decal, like a light silver or black reflective checked flag pattern on clear background. If you release the artist within you might end up with something that looks pure custom & expensive. Of course, if you botch it up then you will likely be headed to powder coat guy.
i hadn't thought about covering the decal and then using another fancy decal on top.. that would be cool, though I could see where getting custom graphics printed might cost as much as a powder coat.

and actually, in the "leave it" camp, overnight i put a polished aluminum crankset and polished water bottle cage on.. perhaps with some more polished bits the silver decals will at least fade into the background

However, that bike isn't debadged - it's overbadged.

I would strip it down and paint it. Won't cost much at all. And you pick any color you want. As long as you do it right, it will be perfect.

im leaning toward powder coating if i decide i really can't live with the graphics, though the plastidip thing still interests me. I had considered doing that for a rack I resprayed, i might try it out and see how it works on the rack before doing a whole frame. i've googled and not been able to find many (any) pics of frames that have been plastidipped, though i have seen a few that have had truck bed tire liner. those look really bad. the plastidip black is a nice matte black, but i'm not sure how the other colors would look. the fact you can just remove it when you don't like it, and it actually protects the frame/paint makes it appealing, though the added weight and weird texture might be downsides. plus, depending on how much you spend, powder coat might start to seem affordable

that all being said, i'm honestly surprised by how just a little silver (well aluminum) seems to have toned the decals down.. not sure if it's cause of the matching silver color of the decal or if the black crank and bash ring was too much contrast or what. if the outline color wasn't red i'd probably stop caring all together..

I thought debadging was just something the "car tuner" guys did to make their cars (be it Ford, Honda, VW) look even more generic.

For actual advise, I've found guitar picks to work well at getting under decals without scratching anything. I like Dunlop 0.73mm nylons.

How about chalkboard paint? Then you can draw your own branding at your fancy pants tastes change.

Anyone else find it ironic that OP is telling Scrod to go ride his bike in a thread about a problem which would be solved if OP would just take his own advice?

Black reflective 3M tape. It's held up well over the past 8 months. I don't mind how it looks, but that is my only/everyday/lockup bike, so the bike in general doesn't look great.

Is there a point to your post or are you just trying to be a dick?

You throw that word around a lot, chief.

What they're saying is that the irony of you busting the balls of a long-time helpful poster because he pointed out the obvious with a retort that would have been less strange had you read it - and applied it yourself.

If you wanted people to respond to you in a manner that was only flowery, sweet and polite - you're probably new to SSFG.

Ha, SSFG always a good time.
I browse alot, but never really post, thought I could be of a little help so here goes...
I have a black Kilo TT (back when they still sold with quill stems), and as suggested by another forum member, there's this automotive cover tape that matched the black paint job of the frame. It comes in large rolls, so you just cut to size and apply. It's almost perfect except for the edge of the cover tape which is barely noticeable on close inspection. I'm willing to bet that there's a white cover tape that matches your bike. Oh, and it was pretty cheap, something like $3 for pretty big roll that could prob cover the whole bike.

Since apparently two of you morons are a bit slow on the take up, I was telling Scrot to go ride his bike because that's the dumbass advice he gave in his first post.

Ah, that's where I went wrong, expecting people to be polite and actually offer constructive advice. Totally my bad on that one.

Let's lay off the drama. This thread is full of actual advice and some commentary that is related to the topic. There's no need for anyone to get personal and to use derogatory language.

Cover the decals
Sand the decals
Live with the decals
Repaint

Choose one.

Edit: I'm not cleaning this up.

Closed.
