Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

The, old frame for a singlespeed buildup, is finished.

On a recent trip to Bologna/Italy i discovered singlespeed/fixed gear bikes in a shop called Hook, https://hookmotors.com/, and thought I have to have/build one of those. I found an old frame on Ebay, and when the frame had no bids, i asked the guy how much he wanted to which he replied "if you pick it up you can have it for nothing". My fears were later confirmed on this forum, that the frame was not up to much. Anyway, I removed all the brazeons, stripped and spray painted, and as the frame is nothing special I used low end parts for the build, total cost £180/270$. Just needs a pair of toe clips.

More small but significant updates. The Motobecane, aka naranja, gets an orange chain to replace the badly worn OEM chain. The only original component on the bike now is the front brake caliper The VISP gets all black compact hooded brake levers for my small hands, so I can now actually reach the lever when riding on the drops.

Nice ride I <3 MKIV's. Too bad they're all going the way of integras and CRX's 'cept for people with much deeper wallets funding crazier modifications...

I really enjoyed the car, I owned it since it was bone stock and I did some crazy stuff to it about 3 diff set ups when I got rid of it it was dynoing 1120 at wheels with out laughing gas, nowadays most MKIVs that are worth anything will be super clean and crazy set ups, Im working on getting a 996 TT next hope by end of year. Its not going to be crazy power but its a more mature car

Recent acquisition. Misc chinese SSFG off of Amazon "Vilano Edge". It rides pretty sweet once I trued the wheels.
Good:
Cheap
Lightish
Came with regular bars and bull bars
Bad:
Seat (replaced with Velo Z1)
Brakes
Pedals (replaced with freebie pedals from another bike)
The color of the wheels (they should be black)

Finished up some design work with the good dudes over at Fyxation. They sent me this Eastside Track in return. Photo is exactly how it came out of the box and a ride around the block (white gets dirty very quickly). I will be changing some parts and be dialing in the fit soon.

Yep, nothing too special by any means. Just a solid lil bike to cruise around on. Also, I dont like to work with people with out being able to speak about the quality of a product.

My design work is hard to explain... I am an illustrator by degree. I have worked the majority of my career as a product designer. I then freelance doing pretty much anything design related. Im trying to get really involved in the cycling community and have been doing a ton of graphic design work with various bike related companies lately. I just did some T-shirts for Fyxation. The one below and a few more to roll out later.

First road bike, first singlespeed/fixed gear, first non-mountain build ...

Still trying to decide between the carbon FSA stem and a silver Thomson, replacement crankset and an extra set of race wheels.

I can see tons of fun on this bike, not like the "serious" bikes out there.
as far as I can say (and if you wanna changing parts), try changing the whites with blacks
