Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Just came to stay with me the other day. Was a buddy's, he hasn't ridden it in four years so he sold it to me. He built this up at the same time we were both really getting in to fixed gear back in about 2004 or so. During the same period I built up a Gardin track frame (Canadian, like me!) which I later cracked through the lug between the headset and the downtube, just due to hard messengering.

Frame is 90s I think. DuraAce seatpost and cranks, Shimano 600 headseat, Phil hubs, Velocity rims (I know, I know, but this was when Velocity was really taking off in N. America), Nitto bar+stem, Sylvan MKS pedals and Fizik Arione Wing Flex seat. Not sure what the BB is without taking it out or asking my buddy. He put all the parts on this bike, FYI, I'm just the lucky recipient. I have a DuraAce headset on my other fixed (a Concorde, somewhere in this thread) which I may switch over, just to keep the DuraAce theme strong.

For some reason the gold cranks actually don't ruin by the bike. Another passela would be nice.

Yeah, they're not enough of an eye-sore for me to really care that much. Pasela #2 definitely coming as soon as I burn through this old Gatorskin.

the basket sucks. I guess it's okay for $20 but even a six pack of beer moves it around

It's actually a type 3 viscount aluminum fork which most Viscount enthusiasts say are pretty safe. I'll be keeping an eye on it, but it shouldn't be worse than a lot of carbon forks.

Got a new frame. Dialing in fit with a threaded-threadless stem adaptor before splurging on a quill stem and some classic drops:

Or selling the whole thing off and starting from scratch...
