1972 Gitane Grand Sport Deluxe

So I'm posting here because I have never really dealt with French bikes before (thus I'm hesitant to purchase this bike bc of cottered bb/crank and French threading). Also, working on my first fixed gear build. Anyhow, I found on Craigslist and was wondering what the bike is worth. Everything seems to be in great condition minus normal wear on the paint. was wondering if I would run into any trouble converting this bike? Thanks!

There's a thread for craigslist postings!

If you want to figure out what the bike is worth, head over to the C&V price check forum. They're good at pricing old bikes like those.

Fewer a holes over there too.

You asked advice once and didn't get what you liked. So just buy it, and regret it. That is what will happen.

Good find value wise as whole bike likely to suck as FG/SS French BB geometry. Last I checked It takes $150 basic to convert french bike to decent SS/FG.

Offer $100

Looks like it's missing parts. I wouldn't pay more than $50, unless the rest of the parts are included and in working order.

You could probably convert it for less than $100, but that'd mean re-dishing the rear wheel for a FW/fixed cog rather than buying a new 27" rear wheel w/ a track hub.

I love french bikes and had a basement full of Pugs and Moto's in Vermont to keep one or two rolling year 'round.
To me, the red flag is "This is perfect fixie candidate". Not an ideal situation for an old generic, stovepipe frenchie.
