Hey everyone. Not to add another thread about messenger bags to this forum, but I have a question... might be the simplest bag question on the planet.
Is the material for most mess. bag cool to have a screen print put on? Arent most made of 1000D? And is that ok for the screen print? If so, what kind of ink would I need, anything special? Thanks |
If you used normal every day scren printing ink it would probably last awhile if cured properly. Water base probably not so good. Maybe try nylon ink.
|
I am interested in how this turns out will you post a pic when your finished?
|
someone on this forum (fixedfiend, maybe?) had done quite a job on his red Chrome bag. not sure if it was screenprinted but the inks seemed rather durable. hopefully he can chime in.
|
Yeah... havent even ordered the bag yet.
Ill post the pics anyway. |
check out reload. they can put graphics on from a digital file. i think its more like stitched... but looks good none the less. http://www.reloadbags.com/ . looks like you can even carry kids around in 'em!
or hell. screen print it flat, and have the bag built up by them, or someone. Plastisol is the ink used on tshirts and stuff. i think theres a vinyl specific ink that would work well. hit the phone book and call up some screen printing supply spots. in LA: Mclogans, 213/749-2262. in the bay, Hayward, its Midwest Screen Printing supplies. all these places to mail order too. word. |
If you are serious about a good job then get a screen or two burned and have someone in the know print it.

my friend screened his timbuk2 a few months ago. looks half decent. a little rough around the edges, i think it was do to his use of Speedball screening kit and total DIY approach, not the material of the bag. it's rugged though, nothing pro, but i like it.
i think as long as you take time with it, it'd look sweet. |
Well, Im gonna order a Dank Backpack. Just debating whether or not to have him emborder or me doing the screen print.
|
Get him to do the design you want! We enjoy doing that stuff and it lasts much much longer, looks good longer and is more impressive. If you include set-up for screen printing for one print it is probably more expensive too.
For example: http://www.under-the-weather.ca/imag...MsDetailLg.jpg You won't find any screenprinting on Cordura that'll look like that! Get him to do it, it's fun to have an original work bag and we like it too. |
Yeah, most likely Ill have him do it... just wondering about different avenues I could take. Its a simple image anyway, just 1 color.
Oh, and that looks great by the way. Thanks. |
