Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

...didn't find ****z, I went to two flea markets, several resale shops, cruised many old neighborhoods since it's trash day, about 12 pawn shops, nada. I did see one older Peugeot MB and a 3-speed Nexus coaster I picked up for 3.00. On the way home I stopped at shop and road a Straight 8, didn't like the Nexus 3-speed so I will probably keep my Cruiser project a ss throw the Nexus on Ebay.

You do not score every day. The 3 speed coaster sounds interesting. What did you not like about riding one? I have never tried Nexus.

It feels like a wide ratio gearbox, 2n'd felt decent, maybe 42x18 but 1'st and 3'rd were really spaced apart. It also clicked like crazy.

SA 3 speeds are 3/4 and 4/3 over the stock 46 18. Pretty wide also. So the rachet mechanism sounds/feels like cr*p? Too bad. The old heavy SA stuff is smooth as butter and you could ride around the world twice with a few drops of oil. Before you give up on the hub, if it takes oil, not grease, try lubing it with synthetic 5w30. This is what I use. I know old Mr.s Sturmey and Archer would roll over in their graves if they read this, but it works for me.
