Flipping the wheel making the jump from SS to Fixed.

Well as someone relatively new to FS/SS but a expeirenced builder/rider who has made a dozen or so of both with great reslults. I'm considering make the big jump and making my SS trainer/beater FS. Everything on the bike is about perfect so all would need to do is Flip the wheel and tire I have gotten comfortable riding using it as a SS. What would I really gain and or loose from the switch. As I don't see myself gaining a lot by the switch yet so many younger riders swear by it I just want some opinions what are the good and bad things. If this helps heres a pic of the bike Rock solid vintag Nishiki frame, nice properly spaced setup sugino crank with 1/8 chain ring and chain, nice alex rim flips flops currently has full drops and great brakes which I will keep either way.

You're thinking too much. Just flip it and give it a week.

STREET CRED! especially when cruising 16th street mall with all the other sweet fixies on sunday afternoons in the summer.

seriously though, I agree you are over thinking it, since youre keeping the brakes it will basically be the same ride, you just wont coast. give it a shot and find out for yourself though, it is much more fun (IMO) than SS

big jump? meh, more like small step

it's still just riding a bike

Seriously, it's not space travel. Oh, and you're going to need some foot retention.

Kayce 01-22-13 04:26 PM

Step 1: Aquire foot retention
Step 2: Put it on your bike
Step 3: Flip your wheel
Step 4: **********
Step 5: Profit
