Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Remove them and weigh them.

Nothing noticeable.

The fact that you have reflectors on your bike suggest that this is not a weight weenie build...

How much weight would I save if I shave my head, and don't wear socks or underwear?

I don't like to mock people on bf. But I ask these to prove the point that weight savings can come from lots of different places, but overall it does not really matter. Reflectors don't work, so it does not really matter. If you never want to use a freewheel, take it off if you want. Your brake is useful, I suggest leaving it on.

Not very much the difference between a nice geared setup and SS/FG is about 5lbs or less which is not noticeable ride wise since the critical weight wheels and tires stays about they same. If your reason for thinking of moving to SS/FG is wieght don't do it.

This. The last few days at 10:30am I have laid some loads that weighed as much as a rear wheel, with tube and tire. Fixed gear.
