Enough sliding room is these dropouts?

Here is a picture of a frame that I have. How well do you think it would fair as a fixed gear? The dropouts are vertical, but you see they slide on plates. The range of motion is up to eight millimeters. Do you think that is enough play to adequately tighten a chain? I think it sounds like a great idea, a cool Italian frame and no tug nuts required. But I’m wondering if there is enough range of motion. …If not, I’m off to BianchiLand. Thanks, Tshirt |
Should be good. There's a chance you'll need a half link to round things out, but then you'll for sure be a-ok.

If you're lucky they might make track dropouts that you could replace the vertical ones with just by unscrewing them... but I see no reason to do so unless you constantly change cogs and chainrings

if a chain link is 1 inch and a purchased half link in a half an inch you need at max a quarter inch of adjustment. I think. you should be fine. this set up looks pretty ideal, actually, once you set the dropouts where you want them you can forget about chain tension.

you might even be able to contract a machinist to make some replaceable trackends for that frame.

i also agree.. horizontal sliding & half-link should make anything work. GORGEOUS frame, btw
