Okay...kinda bizzare question, but can I put a quick release skewer on my front wheel?
I bike commute and having the ability to quickly pull the front would be beneficial to me. Cant lug around tools all the time.
If its not safe...then I'll figure something else out.

Having a quick release wheel shouldn't be a problem at all.

OP, you need to be more specific. Do you want to use a different wheel or put in a new axle with your current wheel? Is it a loose ball hub or cartridge bearing hub? What brand is your hub? This is not an uncommon question so you will find lots of information through a simple Google search. You will surely find something on Sheldon Brown's website. A similar post was made not too long ago here as well.

I would not want QR on a commuter and I replace skewers with a cheap bolt-on. The only tool you need is one you better have anyway. 5mm Allen wrench.

It's reasonable for OP not to assume that the spacing of front Track and Road wheels is the same being that the spacing of rear Track and Road wheels are different.

This is a work-around solution, but why not 2 U-locks? Presumably the front quick release is to lock both wheels and frame with one lock. I personally carry 2 u-locks and do a double sheldon lock job if on the street (normally indoor secured and only use 1). What is the primary reason for a quick release front?

I was looking at the quick release for more of a convenience...I load in my jeep monday then bike commute through friday. I just bring the bike in my office...but was trying to save a little space in my office, and quickly throw in the back of the jeep.

QR axles are fine on fixed gear bikes, but only on the front. Getting the right chain tension on the back would be way too hard and unreliable.

I guess you know much more on the matter than Sheldon Brown.

You need to learn more about your own bike before telling others what to do with theirs. Two weeks ago, you couldn't grasp the concept of what the bolts on a Thomson seatpost do.
