Removing printing on chainring?
I just bought a Blackspire chainring for an older campy track crankset. this was the only 3/32" chainring that the nice Business Cycles folks had to fit the campy crankset.
So I get the black anodized chainring and just like the picture (duh) it has in white silkscreened lettering the following propaganda.... picture of kangarooooo.... BLACKSPIRE.... TRACK 144\46.... MADE IN CANADA each respectively spaced btwn sets of chainring bolts and the arm goes over the blank area. a little too much info and advertising... wondering what I could try using to remove the lettering\silkscreening? Anyone else buy\use the Blacksprire chainrings? thanks, msl |
you could always just paint the whole thing...
i'd imagine it'd be pretty hard to remove the white and not the black... |
I don't suppose it's the sort of thing that a vigorous rubbing with acetone would remove?
|
Yes I use one. BlackSpire Epic 38T on my ATB.
Mine was silver, now it's flat black. 3 light coats of flat black enamael spray paint, 20 minutes in the oven @ 120 degrees. Mine seems a good alloy, no visable wear. The black is on well, just silver on the teeth points. |
dig out your bottle of black fingernail paint leftover from the last Cure concert. cover up the white lettering.
bingo! |
Black magic marker/paint marker also works great.
|
I was thinking 'magic marker time'. I have touched up scuffed dress shoes with stamp pad ink before an interview. Corporate jungle survival techniques.

Kangaroo.
http://www.businesscycles.com/tring-blackspire.htm The beavers worse looking. Beaver rings sounds pretty bad. And beavers with rings are really cougars :D . http://www.blackspire.com/ |
that's strange, I thought that blackspire only made MTB/DH/DS stuff, but after looking at that business cycles page I realized that I'm worng... you learn something new every day...

Ya, it's stupid. We have: Wolves Bears Cougars Moose Bald Eagles ................i've yet to see this elusive Canadaroo. Well, the company just has to make sick\thick chainrings for me to be happy. |
whatch out for blackspire, you can find good deals on them, but they dont last long, my experience with them is that their metal is made too soft, i have had 2 bash rings break in half, and race face's metal seems stronger if you are looking for something comparitive

I would try scraping it off with a razor blade.
It's hard to say though, without seeing it in person. |
To clear this issue up, there's one chainring with a beaver and the rest have kangaroos, I'm not sure if you realized that, OneTinSloth. Personally, I would much rather have the beaver ring... I wonder if you can request it?
|
Acetone always works for taking crap off of anodized surfaces.

No problems anymore. Also we are discussing chainrings not bashguards. Mtnbikers prefer e-13\ Evil lexan bashguards usually. The rings are fine. I'm running a mono-ring, I'd see wear pretty fast. |
Blackspire from north van. Never heard a bad word about them. Standard fare around here. Sporting a 39 tooth 130 bcd on one ride. Nice machining.
