Dude, I live in Chicago (flat as **** because it was built on a ****ing swamp!) and there are places within an hour that I wish I had gears for. The fact that i can muscle up them at 12mph doesn't mean that I don't want gears.

Come to think of it, my gf's Motobecane Track is semi-fixed. It's a freewheel, but when she's walking it, the pedals still turn, haha. And no, the "drag" from pedaling backwards doesn't helping in slow down at all.

I think tricycles are too easy, but I don't feel the need to tell every five year old that their bike is for chumps and that they should get a fixed gear.

Sounds like the chain is too tight.

Don't get why people ride fixed?
I fell in love the first time I rode it. It demands a whole new skill set over bikes with a freewheel, and I'm not referring to riding brakeless or skidding. I'm no slower or faster riding fixed vs gears, and my riding features terrain that taxes those with gears, it's certainly not flat. Fixed gear makes my heart sing - I need no more excuse than that.

I'd love my dad to get a tricycle, it'd get him riding and exercising and probably extend the time I have with him. On the other hand, my sister (younger) has medical issues that prevent her from riding on two wheels. A tricycle would increase the time I have to put up with her. Like me, she's in her fifties, Dad's in his eighties. Trikes aren't just for spoiled kids.

ive seen people zooming trikes through the twisties in videos, leaning side to side through the corners lol. stuff is crazy

Did some reading, freewheel would be real easy to do with some spacers. But I'm going to go all the way fixed. Thanks!

It's actually not. It's got 'track slack.' The freewheel is still new, unbranded, and costed 9 bucks at the LBS. Dunno if it's a factory defect, but it rides fine. Any other potential reasons?

That issue is common with a lot a cheapo freewheels. It may go away with time, it may explode.

or you can look at the positives. your girls bb spins so freely even a little friction in the freewheel makes the pedals go round.

this happens on all my freewheelin bikes with square taper bb's. not with external bb's cause they don't spin as freely.

It's cool cause people think it's a sw8 fixay when you walk it.
