General question about upgrades
I'm fairly new to this, so I realize this may sound like a dumb question.
I've been riding a Wabi Lightning with stock parts for about a year. While I've been pleased with it, I don't have much experience on other bikes to make a comparison. I want to start upgrading my components but I'm not sure where to start. What are some go-to parts that people like to replace first (and that make a difference in ride quality)? For example, when buying a computer, the processor and RAM are often the first things that get upgraded and provide the most dramatic improvements. What's the bike equivalent to that? I use my bike to commute in NYC (lots of stop and go traffic), if that's pertinent information. Here's a list of the stock components I currently have on my Lightning (I have the older 2011 version, but I think this list is the same): http://www.wabicycles.com/Component-...g-LSE2011.html Thanks in advance. |
Usually people upgrade the parts that they have problems with. For example, people upgrade the RAM when they need more RAM to run a specific program. What problems do you have with your bike? Answer that question and you will know what you should replace.

I don't have any real problems to speak of. The stock parts are working just fine, but I'm interested in improving the ride quality (or perhaps investing in higher-quality parts that are less likely to break down later on). I'm just not sure where to start.

A nice set of tires will yield immediate improvement in the ride of your bike. How do you like your saddle? That is another upgrade that will make your bike more comfortable. Those are the first two things I address on my bikes.

Saddle and tires are usually a first upgrade. Followed by pedals. |
