Windsor Clockwork plus- paint finish/decal question?
stupid question for owners of the windsor clockwork. i'm looking at the windsor clockwork plus- BD doesn't have a super detailed gallery on it. what does the paint finish on the black one look like? is it matte or glossy? and the decals, are they under a clearcoat? how hard would they be to remove?
i'm looking at a cheap single speed and i would prefer something plain and without decals so i'm wondering if this fits the bill or if i should go to the dawes SST steel or something else. thanks. |
Why not a stripper?
edit: Nevermind, they are out of stock. So if you are in a hurry that doesn't work. |

Have you considered contacting Bikes Direct and asking them instead of consulting a forum where everyone will tell you to buy a Kilo TT instead?

Can't speak to the black, as I've got the orange - although I can't imagine the paint quality is much different.
The paint itself is flat, with a thin clear coat (satin?) on top of the decals - just enough to frustrate your removal efforts. I haven't tried removing the decals, though. |
When I had a Windsor (The Hour), the decals were under a clear coat. I gave it a shot at removing them, but to no avail.

i've definitely looked at the Kilo TT for what it's worth (including the stripper), but I think in general I want to keep it closer to $300 than $400 for this purchase. I will (in all likelihood) end up with a Dawes SST steel in black and swap out the bars for bullhorns. I was kinda diggin the wheels on the Clockwork Plus which is why i was curious about the decal situation. Still not 100%, though, as I'd like to sell my cannondale first and I'm still researching. |

I have the green one. The paint is flat (as in not metallic) but the clear coat gives it a gloss. The decals are under the clear coat. You could always strip the paint off and start over, or break out a can of spray paint and hope for the best. |
