The '05 Windsor 'The Hour'

Those are pile of crap bikes.
|
370 doesn't seem to be such a bad deal. I'm sure it's not great in any real way but it's a cool starter bike. As long as the frame and fork last a few builds you would get your moneys worth. Just swap out the various bearing related stuff as needed or sell the stuff and make it a better ride. I always like the idea of a sexy fast bicycle but the frankenbikes can be fun as hell to ride.
|
Looks a lot like a Fuji, that's for sure. I didn't look close at the components, but for $370 who's keeping track, right?
Ride them till they blow up, you'll have you money's worth and I'm very happy with the frameset. (assuming it's a Fuji) |
the most significant downside to this bike is probably that dicks will try to make you feel bad for riding one. This is important for some people, not to have other people think poorly of them for riding a less expensive bike.
last time I looked the welds on the bianchi pista weren't that hot but hey, we'll let it go on a bianchi... like hammye said, just replace stuff as it goes bad, $370 ain't a bad starting price if your buying new. |
That ebay seller also sells the mercier kilo tt track bike (rebaged khs flight 100). That by FAR is the better deal. Email her and ask if she has any left. My buddy has the Mercier and couldn't be happier.

As far as this bike vs. the Mercier, I think they are very very similar. If you accept the fact that this is an entry-level bike at a good price, the only complaints I can see would be aesthetic (for instance I don't really like 90-degree stems). It's not a classic lugged steel frame, so what. It will get the job done and you don't have to baby it like you might with a really expensive bike.

This is second-hand, but my good friend who owns a bike shop had one of these things in recently and said it was horrible. He's not a bike elitist, in fact he's pretty down to earth. Once again, take this with a grain of salt because I don't remember what was wrong with the bike, but the general idea was that it seemed poorly fabricated.
On a related note, I owned a 70's Windsor track bike for a while and it was beautiful. The entire frame was chrome with a metallic red coat on top, and it was a nice ride. Unfortunately too small and I had to sell it. For anyone who doesn't know, Eddy Merckx supposedly set the hour record on a Windsor, although I did some research and it was probably a colnago with Windsor stickers on it (He set the record in Mexico, and Windsor was one of the better Mexican brands at the time.) |
Does that rear wheel have a QR?
|
No, bolts on both wheels.
I'm looking more closely. It's absolutely a Fuji frame. I don't know about your friend, but I have no complaints. Sure, it's not brand name lightweight steel, know that. Sure, it's TIG welded not lugged, know that. It's also been damn near bombproof and I like the way it rides. The cranks and wheels are definitely economy-grade, but it's not bad. |
I see Harris is selling Fuji Track framesets for $250. Think of it as wheels, tires, cranks, BB, chainring, pedals, and saddle for $120 more. That's not so terrible, right? As long as your budget is limited, I say it sounds pretty damn good.
(Btw, at $250 retail I'm feeling pretty good for picking mine up at $90, even if there is a ding in the top tube and one of the stays had been bent a little... probably wrecked.) |
Yellow bikes are always faster cooler better stronger than not-yellow bikes. Always.
|
At least 10% faster than any other color.

That is a fact. |
Looks like an incredible deal to me. Start adding up the parts prices........
|
I'm getting one of these... They Definitely are rebadged Fuji Tracks.
I had a Fuji Track and it was nice. Who gives a Sh*t if anyone makes fun of what bike you ride? For $300 that I'd ride that and rebadge it to say Huffy. It's still DB 4130 chromoly, which will last you more than $300 worth of miles. I sent the seller "chicabikes" an email before I get it though, when I hear back from her (I guess it's a chica) I'll bid (it's only a "Buy It Now" option though). It'll make a decent beater bike. |
i just bought one of these guys. i haven't received the bike yet but the seller has been extremely awesome. i don't have a paypal account and she arranged it so i sent her sister a money order and then her sister put the money in her paypal account. i should have the bike in about a week so then i will post a review of it since so far it seems like nobody has any real substantial proof that this bike is a piece or good deal.

http://www.popdan.com/eddy/ good stuff. |
Think any of us can convince Lance Armstrong to ride this $335 Windsor when he tries to break the hour record? That'd make a great Nike commercial
|
Look on the last page, just over 12 lb. That bike's not even legal these days.
|
Thanks for the article. Good read. Now I know what Molteni means.
|
Lance isn't doing the hour anymore. . .well at least he says he's going to do the Tour again this year.
