Went for a quick ride yesterday afternoon -- perfect weather outside

While i was riding, my mind does what it always does -- works stuff out or just has total random thoughts. Today for some reason I was thinking that I should probably invest in some locking wheel nuts..

Suggestions?

Seconded.

Today, on November 7th, in the midwest, I rode to work in shorts and no hat and wasn't cold. Crazy.

Had the heat on for only the past three nights here in Georgia. This is the latest I've been able to wait.

Normally we turn it on at the beginning or middle of October and I'm looking forward to my gas company recalculating balanced billing for next year.

Normal switch to heat here for me is November 1st, but it's been warm until recently, so I've needed the AC in the afternoon. It's now a lot cooler, although the furnace might not turn on tonight, but for sure it will tomorrow night. Last winter was super mild, and I had to cut the lawn, so it will be interesting to see how this winter turns out. AGW ?

Wore shorts, short sleeve jersey, and fingerless gloves to ride today. Suns out, guns out amirite? This fall has me happier than a kid on Christmas.

My biggest complaint is the lack of an insulated bottle. I can use a small uninsulated bottle for a few months a year.

I don't understand all this early voting.

Election day is supposed to be "the Tuesday next after the first Monday in the month of November."

Too much early voting IMO.

So, it's called election day, not voting day. Who cares when the votes are cast, since they are not counted until election day. Or, are you one of these voter suppression types that would rather see less voter participation ? I'm 70 years old, so I have the option of voting early by mail, and many seniors like me might not vote if they had to stand for hours in a line at the polling place on election day. Also, if you don't have any idea how you will vote until election day, then you probably shouldn't be voting anyway.

I voted today too. My polling place was nearly empty when I went, but I know multiple people who have waited in line for an hour or more today. Early voting makes perfect sense IMO. Voting should be open to all registered citizens, not just those who are able to wait in ridiculous lines on a Tuesday in November.

I vote by mail, I think it's silly how uncommon that is. What are the perceived drawbacks people see with voting by mail a few days before "election day" rather than going in person and waiting in line?

I find the whole system of going down the block to check boxes in a cubicle to be archaic honestly. We have robots on MARS but this is the best we got for electing the leader of our country?

Today I thought my Steamroller was feeling neglected. I've been riding a lot, but mostly on other bikes.

So I hopped on it and did about 20 miles. Weather was beautiful. At dusk, when I was almost back home, I stopped for a big, fat burrito. Note the key phrase "almost home." This time of year here in the desert, when the sun goes down the temperature drops fast. So I stepped out of the burrito place and pulled on my jacket but still felt a bad chill coming on. What to do? Get on the bike and ride HARD! I went the two miles to home as fast as my legs could spin. It worked; I kept warm.

It was a good ride, and now the Steamroller's had its share of attention.

Please relax. It is very difficult to converse with someone who jump to conclusions.

I don't understand were my exact words.

I understand early and absentee voting for those who need it - people in the hospital, seniors, etc. The law is clear however, that it is supposed to be on a certain day. When 30% of the votes are cast on another day they are breaking their own law, that's all. I don't understand how they can justify 30% early voting in light of the law, that's all.

Personally, I like to go down, in person and cast a physical ballot. I miss the old booth with a big lever and curtains that closed. I also like real banks with human tellers and never go to the self checkout. I still writer letters. That's just me.

I'll bet you still use a rotary dial phone, 8-track tape and a slide rule too.

Said the man who just purchased his first smartphone a few months ago...

I actually have a rotary phone, used to belong to my grandfather. It was wired into the home phone system and rang until the day I dropped home phone service.

That just means that despite being a lot older than you, I'm willing to embrace good modern technology. I recently built a modern steel framed bike with a full carbon fork, because it's better. You see, I'm not married to the past and hope to continue evolving until the day I die.
