The Houston one is like 3000 people or so at this point. It's insane. I've yet to do it myself because it's not easy for me to get to downtown, but I follow it on Facebook and read/interact with people who do. |

I haven't gone in many months. A friend told me they had an escort of cops for them last he went. Not just for the start. Most like both for safety (blocking lights for riders and such) and tryin to keep the hooliganism down.

It's been like 5 or more years since I've done critical mass SD... and it sounds like fun! I kind of want to rally my gf and some friends to do one before too long. The SD one is (or at least was) more the rolling party variety - w a couple liquor store stops.

dallas CM usually involves fist fights, alcohol, crashes and many, many pissed off motorists.

On Friday I Went out for a ride and picked a poor route and ended up behind Seattle Critical Mass. I have done CM in Portland, Phoenix, and SLC. Generally good times and respect for most motorists. The Seattle riders were just downright rude. A bunch of them complained/yelled at me when I passed them on the left due to their 7mph pace. Not into CM. Not one bit.

I read an article that was written by a mechanical engineer that explained why any kind of wax is an extremely poor lube for any kind of chain, not just bikes. To me it made perfect sense. I'll see if I can find it.
I've just used motor oil for years. |

Today I found out that I lost a friend that I was stationed with in the Army. Took a long hiatus, like 3 years, from Facebook and only recently came back. Was looking up all of the guys I was friends with, and I thought I was friends still with some of them. Look up my buddy, and find out that he passed away last year from cancer. Obviously we didn't talk much while I was gone, but he was still a buddy of mine. Let's just say that I sat here staring at my screen for a good few minutes in absolute disbelief.

today i started a revolution on instagram.

Today I got smoked on a group ride. I took the fixed gear because it was supposed to be 40ish miles, 16-18 mph pace. Well, I didn't feel it today, not at all. By 25 miles in I was falling off the back. 30 miles in I was struggling to keep up. 34 miles in and I was dropped. Told them to keep going because I knew my way back to the cars. They were very supportive of me, but I felt foolish. Even with my slow pace at the end, I still managed a 17.8 mph average for 37 miles. That will probably be the last time that I ride that particular bike on their ride. 11 speed 105 would have been far better for me.

^^You probably earned their respect nonetheless.

Nah, keep it up man. I used to do those rides in my early 20s and it was soo satisfying to finally keep up and then be beating people up the hills. I dobt know how old you are though and I'm out of shape

Today I rode with a Garmin 820 for the first time.
It worked fine and I don't hate it but after using a Polar V650 I'm seriously unimpressed by the screen on the Garmin. Going from the Polar V650 to the Garmin Edge 820 is like going from a color laserjet back to a dot matrix printer. Should be interesting to see what Polar says about repair or replace under warranty. It has two year warranty but failed after 364 days use. -Tim- |
Today Sagan got kicked out of the Tour because Cavendish caused another crash.

The guy who dove in front of Sagan didn't help matters either. The whole thing was a mess. I'm definitely not a fan of Cav. He's fast but he fairly often knocks out himself or other people by riding like ****. The mess he made on the track at Rio last year was another prime example.
