looking fwd to a road ride tomorrow to wake up my legs, track tomorrow night and a mtb ride W morning. nice little trifecta of sorts

seau grateau 08-08-17 12:07 AM

Hit up the track tonight, good session. Did some team pursuit practice, which is one of my favorite things to do. Also did timed flying 200's which I am very...not good at.

Today I came back to BFSSFG after many years away.

I'm annoyed. The faceplate for my stem still hasn't arrived and my new bike has a creak/click when I really pedal hard. I thought it was the Wolf Tooth chainring bolts so I swapped steel ones in and it was still there, despite one of the Wolf Tooth bolts practically being loose when I removed it. Next I pulled the bottom bracket and greased the interface between the cups and the bearings. Still not it. Made sure pedals and crank bolts were tight, still there. I'm fairly certain it's NOT my BB but I see myself pulling the Phil out again and installing my Sugino to make sure. Irritating.

You check the pedals themselves?

Yep, tightened and lubed.

EDIT: You know, I should swap pedals out just to check....

Threaded BB shell? Have you tried teflon tape?

No-can-do with a Phil BB. I really kinda doubt that's actually what's causing it.

Did you see Zach's latest "Fixie Points" video? I know I've seen some of those bikes on this forum*.

*Like, my bike. Participation is, of course, purely voluntary. I sent him the photos.

**Also, for those who don't get it, this is not a serious video. It's all done tongue in cheek. His other videos are good, though.

The all white Level too - its jonelliotelliot's

Oddly enough when he posted it here and I commented on its ghost-bike-ishness like Gallardo did in that vid - nobody here seemed to get it :foo:

Wow that guy sucks.

TMonk 08-08-17 04:33 PM

can't wait to watch that when I get home

That video is done entirely in a character that is not his normal personality. I'd suggest watching another of his videos (not title "Fixie Points") to get a more accurate idea.

I get that. It's just not landing at all.

motrheadsroadie 08-08-17 09:35 PM

youtube "personalities" are so fkn wack.

sofa king

raced track for tonight the first time since 2016, did the B's. Grabbed a second in the 12-lap snowball, win in 36 lap points, and win at unknown distance scratch race. hopefully they let me do this a couple more times before I have to do A's where I'll be racing to survive.

Nice. How does snowball work? Never heard of that one.

TMonk 08-09-17 07:03 AM

Each successive lap is worth one additional point, so lap one is worth one point, lap two is worth two points, and so on,

johnnytheboy 08-09-17 07:28 AM

not the type of snowballing i'm used to.

It was the BB. The noise stopped when I put my old Sugino one in. On second thought I might try teflon tape. I have a feeling the noise is just a tolerance issue with the threading.

TMonk 08-09-17 07:52 AM

Skipped my Fiesta Island workout this morning. Got ~10 min down the road and decided to turn around.

I've just got too much going on at work right now. Normally I would just work late, but I'm busy with moving and life stuff later. Something's gotta give, and right now it's cycling. Can't wait till this moving crap is over and I can get back on the horse!

Do the Phil cups feel different than the Sugino when screwing them in? Easier to thread in? I've never done it, but I've read that teflon tapes works, and it makes sense too.

motrheadsroadie 08-09-17 10:06 AM

use liberal amounts of that silver antiseize stuff instead of greasing the threads.

They thread in smoother than the Sugino (anodized aluminum vs steel). I wouldn't even be messing with it if the Phil Wood unit wasn't so much lighter than the Sugino.

jtbadge 08-09-17 10:37 AM

I like the teflon tape. Makes things really snug.
