Frame size for track bike.

Hi people.

I am about to order a Dolan Pre Cursa track bike.

I have used different calculators to find out my size, but they all say different things.
Also i have heard that a track frame should be a bit smaller than a traditional road frame.

The bike will be used for racing on the road. I do short (20 km) runs and longer (80 km) runs.

My height is 178 cm (5 feet and 10 inches) and my legs are 85 cm (2 feet and 9,5 inches).

What do you guys think? I think about either the 54 or 56 cm. frame?!

Best from Anders.

Why don't you post the results from the fit calculators. It is generally false that a track bike should be smaller than a road bike.

A 56 would fit you better than a 54, but it'd be a much better idea to see the frame in person before you order.

We're probably proportioned damn near exactly the same. Crazy.

Definitely go with the 56.

The problem is that i cannot see it in person. I can only order on Dolans webshop :-(

Ha ha. That is cool.

Would the 54 be too small? Se these specs for the frame:

Yeah, you need at least a 56cm TT. The 54 is quite short for you. The 56 has a 56.5 TT which should work great.

Hell, I ride a 56.5, haha.

Hell, I ride a 56.5, haha.

Thank you so much.

Im confused now. Some guys from another forum says that a 54 would fit perfect, because of a more "aggresive" style..

We are identical?! :thumb:

There's a difference between an aggressive geo and not having a long enough top tube.

According to your fit results, a 54 would be pretty damned undersized.

What's the top tube length on your road bike? Your track bike should be the same size as it. Sizing down doesn't make sense.

I have a Fuji Track Classic now. I use that for everything now. School, city, shopping and racing.

In the future, the Fuji will be used for the rides to the city, school and so. The Dolan (the new bike) is ONLY for racing..

The top tube length on my Fuji is 56. But i have no idea if that is the correct size :-)

Is there i way i can measure if my current bike (Fuji Track Classic - 56cm) is the correct size?

Compare the info you got from the fit calc to the geo chart on their site. The TT is 56cm which is pretty close to the 56.5 of the Dolan.

Surrrre it is only for racing, til you feel like taking it "just once" then you get addicted to riding it around town. I'm not helping you find clip on fenders for it, i'm just saying that now! Good luck with the bike search, in all seriousness.

Do you own a Pre Cursa yourself?

I think i can handle it. I got the Fuji Track too..

sinikl 06-02-13 01:53 PM

i don't, but i have my eye on it as a next bike. I'm just saying, i've had multiple mountain bikes before and couldn't stop myself taking "the good one" all the time. I assume you'll be building up the Dolan with nice quality parts and it'd be hard to turn down something lighter and faster.

Yeah, but my Fuji is not a mountain bike ;) It is also a "light" and nice bike.
I do not expect to upgrade anything, but things do change.. Ha ha.

CyclingDaily 06-02-13 03:31 PM

It depends on the maker of the frame.

ftfy

56cm is not a measurement that is subject to change between companies.
