Decisions, Decisions
Hey guys, long-time lurker, first-time poster. I've been reading up on the SSFG forum for the past few months, and have (finally) had a question where I couldn't find the answer (at least no recent answers). Last Summer, I bought my first "real" bike, a 2012 Fuji Track Classic, and have loved it ever since. I ride SS-- I like the simplicity of fixed gear but with the luxury of coasting. I usually ride maybe 50 miles every week, 20 to/around town (I live in an extremely small town) and 30 on paved trails with my grandpa. That's the background.
Now to my question: I've saved up enough money for a 2012 Bianchi Pista, but I am sort of at a crossroads. I don't know if the money spent on the Pista is enough to be considered a justified "upgrade" as compared to my Classic--basically, is the Pista worth it since I already have the Classic? Thanks! |
Framewise, you might not feel the difference. Buy the Pista if you really like the brand and looks, but if you want to truly upgrade, upgrade the components that affect ride quality the most, such as the wheelset, tires, and saddle.

Honestly, save your money.
Lateral upgrades are not upgrades. |
Yeah, it'll be kinda like a different colored bike.

Thanks for the suggestions, I think I was sort of starstruck with the celeste :p.
If the Pista was a no-go, I planned on experimenting with a road bike, more specifically an Allez Comp or a Via Nirone7 2300. But before I take the plunge, are there any suggestions for a new SS (I don't have the expertise to build one up) with a classic-looking aluminum or lugged frame in the $800-$900 range? (Tried to be as specific as possible  ) |

Also +1 to a geared bike, maybe a road bike or a touring/utility type bike you could throw a rack and panniers on. Or a hardtail if you have some dirt trails nearby. |

Looks are just looks. You already have a nice SS. Get a nice road bike. Expand your stable to different styles of bikes and you will do better than different brands of the same style that you already have.
Glad to see someone from Ga, too! |
