Lizard Skin bar tape

A few weeks ago I bought said tape and when I ride 30+ miles my hole hand tingles. I'm not sure if it's a median or ulnar nerve issue or just the tape. The reason I say that is because the two previous tape's I had where polar opposites, Velo Gel Tape which was thick and padded the other was Performance Carbon tape which thin and like riding on bare bar. Neither of those made my hands tingle the way the Lizard Skin does no matter what distance I would ride. Has any one who uses Lizard skin Tape had any issues with something like this?

Maybe the Lizard Skin is like the frog skin that exudes some numbing neurotoxin? Alternatively, perhaps it's George Carlin come back from beyond the grave, reacting to your "Jesus Booster" avatar. Or, it could be something entirely different!

Could be excreting the toxin from all those tiny little pores the tape has. Or Jesus is made at me because he's being mocked. Who knows.

tried a bunch. Lizardskins is all i use now. grippy even in driving rain without gloves.

that said, tape thickness and resulting comfort can be a very personal preference.

can't imagine using anything else though.....

This. I've got it on all my bikes. Road, track, fixie, commuter, CX, MTB.

The Lizard Skins tape is good, but not nearly $40 good. Just went to the Zipp Service Course bar tape and has the same feel as the dsp, but half the price.

It is gripy as heck, but since it's been on my bars I got wicked carpal tunnel or something. I got this pain form my right hand through my forearm, elbow and tricep. This ship hurt's!

Did you change anything else when you changed the bar tape? Sounds like too much weight on the bars.

Nope just the tape. I ride glove less it started like pins and needles all over my hands. I thought I would get used to it, I still get that feeling plus serious nerve pain like I said. I'm just gonna go back to the gel tape that didn't funk my arm up.

I'll second what Dan said about you gripping the bars too tightly. If you were using gel tape before, that may have been enough to counteract it.

It could be my grip, I never really close my hands that tight. I just let them naturally wrap around the bar when I'm on the tops and never close my fingers when I'm on the hoods. Maybe I subconsciously tighten up after 2 or 3 hours tho.

This could be revealing bad saddle fore/aft adjustment.

Saddle adjustment isn't about reach. If it is too far forward then too much weight is shifted forward and onto your hands/arms/shoulders.

Do you have a picture of your bike as it is now?

Taken two months ago. Since a new post with 1 cm more setback my deda felt too close with the brooks siting on back rivets and raised saddle to 86cm (109 method) give or take a few mm fore comfort. Slightly lowered hoods. All before I got the LS tape and felt comfortable.

I bet those recent changes caused the issues, not the bartape.

That was about about a month and a half ago I had crappy performance tape that had zero cushion on it, felt like bare bar and had zero discomfort. I put the LS about three weeks ago since then my right arms felt crazy.

My pinkies go numb with too much padding. You may have the same issue. I usually use Fizik Microtex, but recently tried the Lizard Skins. My pinkes went numb the first ride, so I rewrapped the bars and pulled the tape a little tighter to get it thinner. It's been great after that.

Next I will try the LS Race 1.8mm, and hopefully that will be perfect.

Here's the bike today. There's just something about that tape that makes my skin feel weird. I'm gonna switch it back to the gel tape that felt good. Thanks for the tips people.

This joke confuses me way more than it should. He was the Cardinal in the movie from which Buddy Jesus comes from. So....
