Pure Fix yes or no
 

My brother wants a fixie and he wont do his own research so now i am forced to determine whether or not the bike were going to buy is going to be junk or not. We were at sports chalet just to look around and I was trying to get out of there before we made a final decision because i don't like rushing these things. I wanted to get out of there but the one paying for it ended up ordering a Pure Fix bike with no measurements.. My brother is 6'1" and i thought he should get a 58 but apparently they said he would be fine with a 54 (again no measurements) which didn't make any sense to me... Luckily we got a call saying they were on backorder or w/e and i just said cancel it..

Now that i have some time to breath i'm trying to research the bike and alternatives for the bike. At the store the Pure Fix bike was about 350 after tax and shipping.. What are the best bikes around this price range +- $100.. I Saw the Mercier Kilo TT but i dont know if the sizes are in stock. apparently there are others but since i know nothing about fixed gears and i cant make a decision by myself.

For $70 less, you can get the Motobecane track. Clean looking bike, much better quality than a pure fix.

BD has had 1 55cm kilo tt on the site since yesterday but it's really sold out. Agitating, I really want to impulse buy a kilo right now but I can't impulse myself into the motobecane, windsor, state, tomcat or eighthinch yet

He said the buyer is 6"1, and the largest size is 56cm. Though I don't know his inseam or anything, I'm just assuming since he's as tall at 6"1, he would need a 56cm

thanks for the advice we went down to walmart and picked up this thruster http://www.walmart.com/ip/Thruster-7...-Bike/17206771 we love the quality in construction and we think its going to last at least 5 years. Great price too! thanks guys.

but really.. can anyone throw some 200-400 fixie ideas, 56-58cm.. i was looking at windsor, motobecane bikes.. are they any good?

and how often does Bikesdirect get that kilo tt back in stock?

I've been looking at the same bikes as well as State Bicycle Co., Toto Tomcat and Eigthinch. I don't know anymore then what is on the sites but they are all crmo frames and components don't seem any worse then the BD bikes.

But for the money it seems like the motobecane or windsor for $100 less would be the way to go if you don't want to wait for the kilo tt to be back in stock.

The Motobecane and Windsor frames are made in China and the welds are horrible. The Kilo TT frames are made in Taiwan and the welds are very good. The other parts are similar quality. You can upgrade parts but you can't upgrade the frame.

So I'm guessing that the general consensus here is that the kilo tt is the best for the money?

You could try the Kilo WT. The geometry is different, but the components are decent (comparable to the Kilo TT Pro). They're pretty well stocked. It's $79 above your $400 cap, but I think that extra money goes a long way, especially when faced with your other choices. It's a good bike.
