My Pre Cursa build

I just finished up my build today. Grand total came to $680.38. I reused wheel set, tires, chain and front brake from my old p.o.s fixie. Bought the rest new. Paid the LBS to install headset, bb and crankset and build the rest myself. This was my first custom build and a fun experiment and proves the point that custom building will cost you! I will eventually upgrade the wheel set and tires and at that point the total will probably hit $900 when I'm done. Here is the break down so far:

PreCursa Build Parts (including shipping)
Frameset 381.45
Andel Crankset & BB 99.98
Shimano PD540 pedals 41.99
Tektro RL520 brake levers 24.99
Charge Spoon Saddle 26.99
Easton A30 stem 8.99
Easton A70 bars 39.99
Deda bar tape 16
LBS labor 40
Total 680.38

Ha. Sorry I didn't take a hipster picture of it parked in front of a dumpster with a can of PBR balanced on the saddle

that stem really wants to be flipped

and that tape really wants to be done right

does that front wheel have a braking surface?

oh man awesome bike, congrats buddy!

Front wheel has braking surface. Wheels and brake came of another bike. Stops great.

What is your comment about the tape? Just the fact that I didn't get it tight around the hoods? If so, I know it's not aesthetically appealing but I don't care.

I considered flipping the stem but I'm old and my back hurts. This set up has more of a seat/bars drop then I'm used to so once I do get comfortable I might flip it.

I built it to be functional not stylish. It will probably get ridden a couple of days a week and 95%-100% on roads.

We should have a thread where you can post pics of your bike.

No one gives a **** about your build.

It's for educational purposes. When I started the process I wished there were some more threads with people's part list and prices on everything so I could have had a more realistic idea of what my build would cost. So, maybe there should be a thread like that. Until then, I give you this thread. You're welcome

striknein 07-17-13 09:05 PM

This thread is bad and you should feel bad. Also, people don't have calculators?

rms13 07-17-13 09:07 PM

I feel fine. I have been around here long enough that I certainly didn't expect even one person to post here and be like "oh man awesome bike, congrats buddy!".

striknein 07-17-13 09:07 PM

And yet...

re: tape, yup

all valid reasons to me tho

i think there was a post your build thread years ago but to be honest i might be imagining that

Enjoy your new ride.

If you want to post a build thread, do it. No rules against it, plus the added benefit of annoying people. With that said, bike build threads are kind of boring because they are pretty simple machines. Build threads in certain other hobbies are more understandable.

Mumonkan 07-17-13 10:06 PM

theres always pedalroom

rms13 07-17-13 10:16 PM

I should have posted in the what don't you like about my bike thread

seau grateau 07-17-13 10:59 PM

No, don't do that.

AristoNYC 07-18-13 10:14 AM

Looks good, not a fan of that crankset choice however. I miss my Pre Cursa, though I got rid of it for lack of rear brake.

As for the bar tape, they come with little strips that are made to put on the under side of hoods when taping (if you didn't know) so it doesn't look like that.

Forty bucks to press a headset/install a bb/crank?

I'm glad I don't live in California, I got mine pressed/cut and bb installed and it was like ten bucks.

I fail to see why that would make it more appealing.

I re-wrapped the bars to make everyone happy...including myself

$40 is a lot of money for the LBS work? They did also cut the steerer tube. I have about 3 LBS to choose from within cycling distance from my home/work. These guys are by far the best mechanics and the best guys. The other shops are run by crotchety old men who treat you like you are hassling them by asking them to do any work

sheepdog84 07-19-13 12:06 AM

i'm still upset.

Sounds like you're happy with her and that's what counts.
Funny you should say you've got the neck that way to ease your ageing back - mate, that setup would kill me.
Now, go and wear her out. :thumb:
