setting up clips/straps.

I just bought my first set of clippable/strapped pedals. How do I properly thread the strap through the clip? I don't want anything slipping. I think I must be buckle-deficient.

Anyhow-- anyone got a picture of a properly set up clip/strap pedal?

This should help:
The 'twist' is essential to keep the strap from sliding around.

thanks a ton.

THAT's what my problem has been!

Is it really that easy to tighten them up while riding? I generally just set the size and leave it--don't yet have the balance to reach down and loosen/tighten.

Related Topic: Anyone tell what size clips are appropriate for what size shoes? I bought some steel clips, size Small, because I have smaller feet (8.5), and a lot of my shoes just don't fit very well. But I don't want them to be too deep, cause that would kind of ruin the purpose of 'em, too. What size clips do you have for what size/types of shoes? Also, any advice on decent around-town shoes to wear for hopping on the bike and slipping into the clips? (Are your toes cold at all?)

I just got XL clips-- I wear size 12 (mens) shoes and I've got wide feet. I have some old school Campy pedals that came with tiny clips, and they were way too small (the ball of my foot was almost off the pedal...)

I also just got some Adidas old school soccer shoes (Spezials) that are pretty comfy for riding-- a harder sole than the chuck taylors.

I skip the twist since my straps fit so tightly in the pedal body - not really necessary for me.
Good thing to know though. Dig the graphic too BF...where'd you clean that from?

Actually someone else posted that image as a response to another "how do I set up my clips" question. I downloaded the image, becaues it's a sweet image, and also I figured that it would come in handy to the recurring toe clip question.

tighten at low rpm's only. I snug em down nice not too tight to cut circulation but tight enough to where I can't get the foot out. So if I have to stop I have to reach down. You get used to it. Some straps come with a little button grip on the tip of the strap to make it easier to grab.

PS I may have to make that graphic my new avatar. Only with permission :)

I ride large clips but I'd dig some XLs. I like to get my feet in real deep and get the strap around the arch, right behind the balls of my feet. Keeps everything real tight like. I wear size 11 (US) shoes.

I put one foot in while standing still and cinch down and then get the other in at low speed or even at a standstill. Then just don't take them out. Trackstand through any downtime.

The image comes from John Allen's "Street Smarts".

I wear an 8.5 (all stars or adidas sambas), and medium MKS clips are just right.

wilcru, you a mathematician and algebraist? Man, I haven't seen a question like that since my Abstract Algebra final exam, oh, ten years or so ago...loved that stuff, back in the day.
