The Angry Singlespeeder

I read this entertaining blog while looking around the MTBR forums. Since starting on my SS mtb I have to be grateful how my years riding fixed have mentally prepared somewhat for the challenges on the dirt and rocks. I think some of you will relate to it or just find it enjoyable. It fits in with my time spent climbing fixed to Mulholland from all over LA.

I think I'm going to be a lot more vocal next ride. ;)

Read this before my cummute, and crushed 15 miles in 45 minutes

That was brilliant. Lets not forget the look of derision from the cat6 single track time trial specialists who can't ****ing STAND having to wait 30 seconds for a clear section of trail to pass.

Haha, good read. I would say I fit the bill when I mtb outside of flat Florida, but down here the SS rig just makes more sense and is more enjoyable to ride.

There was a lot of loud grunting last time I went out but I think this is a great outlet for some raging. I know some brutally steep trails and I should htfu with the SS.

Now that I think about it, there is definitely an increase in f-bombs dropped when I ride the FG.

so much for the "zen" experience

seau grateau 07-25-13 12:28 AM

Yeah that's nonsense. Zen is a derailleur.

hairnet 07-25-13 01:45 AM

Zen? That's in the cycling itself independent of fixed gear or derailleurs. The only "zen" experience I have had on the bike was simply runner's high on my 24 hour ride on my roadie, after several hours into the night, after the rain calmed, and I had become comfortable continuing the ride without my glasses

seau grateau 07-25-13 01:56 AM

To me, zen is when drivers yell obnoxious things and cut me off and I can just smile and say "Have a nice day."

sheepdog84 07-25-13 06:29 AM

I think I've started noticing/calling out more **** driving since I've started riding

thats zen, right?
