A couple random questions
Alright, here's what's up. I'm building a fixed gear bicycle out of a vertical dropout frame. To accomplish this I am going to get an ENO Eccentric hub. This bike needs lots of little parts. Of all of those parts some of the most important are tires and pedals. Here are my questions:
1) What is the best pedal strap? Royal HC, YNot, Fyxation, or some other one? 2) What is the best pedal to pair up with one of those? 3) What are the best, practically bulletproof tires? Gatorskin? Armadillo? Thanks for the replies. Cheers. :) |

Straps are preferential depending on who you speak to. A lot of people don't prefer them at all. Generally the best pedal for a set of straps are BMX pedals. There are dozens if not hundreds of different types of BMX pedals, so you may want to just start Googling. I like my Randos for tough tires. Pain to get on and off though, especially the first time. |

It was 14 minutes from your OP, expecting an answer. Chill out.

: P I've done plenty of research but I don't want to drop hundreds of dollars into stuff I may not like. That's why I come here for a second opinion. |

1)I like Retrogression straps,
2)Odyssee Twisted pedals (and ones constructed similarly) seem to work better than most others 3)What works for me may or may not work for you (Michelin City Protek plus) |
1. None.
2. Crank Brothers Egg Beater or Candy. 3. The tire that lasted the longest for me was the Continental Super Sport. |

Something SPD-SL. 2) What is the best pedal to pair up with one of those? Shimano DA-9000. You asked for best. Or LOOK keo blade, 2nd best but you don't seem to be a man who takes compromises so DA-9000 it is! Done. 3) What are the best, practically bulletproof tires? Gatorskin? Armadillo? Soma Everwear |

Im new to the fixed gear world. Is it a smart idea to clip into a fixie? It seems pretty dangerous to me

Why doesn't anyone really like straps? Are they uncomfortable or something?
|
most manufacturers make platforms that can be attached so you don't HAVE to ride clipped in.
however, if you are not ready to go that route (maybe you'll be commuting and dont want to click around all the time when you walk), just go with gr9/10 and get some steel cages and laminated straps. thay all work pretty well. |

Good point. I'll look into that. Is there a pedal that can be used clipped or not clipped?
http://amzn.com/B001AT33CW theres plenty of people here that are pro-clips i dont find them uncomfortable i just prefer being clipped in, i can get more out of my pedalstroke and dont worry about having my strap break or foot come out to give a legitimate answer to your questions: 1) toshi straps (with metal cages) or holdfast seem to be the favorites 2) mks gsr-9s / urban platforms or oddsey twisted pedals 3) ive liked my schwalbe durano plus and pasela tgs, i had armadillos and they were heavy and slow and werent the most flat proof either |

I looked into Toshi Straps just now and I don't know if I'd be willing to spend that much for straps. I'm sure they'd last forever, but theyre probably not right for what I'll be using them for. I REALLY like the MKS GR-9 pedals, I'll look into those paired up with holdfast straps. Would that be a good combo? I looked into the Schwalbe Durano Plus and I like those. I just want THEE toughest tire possible. Replacing tubes isn't that hard but it's a pain as everyone knows. Thanks for the advice! |
are you going for this
