NYC Shops ?
Hey All - I've been out of the SSFG loop for a while and recently dusted off the trusty steed and started riding again.
I am looking to purchase new wheels and was wondering which shops in NYC are recommended. I know I can buy online but would rather see and feel what I am buying. I noticed a few shops on the LES are no longer there. Where should I / shouldn't I go?? Thanks in advance. |
in manhattan? continuum. or chari & co.
if in brooklyn: king kog. or affinity..? |
I usually go to Ciel bikes. Cool guys, good service, good mechanic work.
Bike Works NYC is pretty decent. King Kog has pretty good stuff but IIRC they're kinda jerks. I went in and there was one guy behind a counter staring at a magazine who completely ignored me. There's no way he didn't see me since the place is about the size of my living room. There's Affinity which has a decent rep. |
Thank you. This will get me started.
Now...what should I get???? |
Have fun getting back on the wagon. When I lived the Slope I had a lot of luck with both 718 Cyclery and Ride Brooklyn. NYC Velo is my local shop now and they've always treated me well.
|
I also bote for 718. And in Lower Manhattan, New York Velo.
|
bikeworks are good mechanics, nyc velo is a great shop and their mechanics seem to know what theyre doing
|
I use SIDS or TOGA

+1 on NYC Velo and RideBrooklyn. I've had good experiences in the past with both, mainly for mechanical work on my road bike and fixie. Always friendly and courteous. If I was in the market for a new bike I wouldn't hesitate to give either shop my business if they dealt a brand I was looking for. Just outside NYC, if you do the Piermont / Nyack ride, Piermont Bicycle Connection has also given me good mechanical service in the past, and has a pretty decent sized showroom, by NYC standards.

their ebay page is strangely varied. they had a klein frame i shouldve bought, but they also sell womens shoes and luggage.
FSA 100mm stem, $10. 20-year-old clarinet, $20. Espresso knockbox, $5. Outbid on: Alden shoes, Barbour jacket (!), Litespeed frame. Needless to say, I check their eBay store regularly, but not so much since being laid off womp womp |
I got a Litespeed frame from Piermont at a somewhat decent price.
|
Not......:roflmao:
In these days of fifty dollar tee shirts and baseball hats, I got 5 hats from Piermont for less than $20. The best part---------------not a one of them had NASCAR anything on it. |
Yes, Piermont sells on consignment.
