Brakes - tell me why...
I'm a cool old guy that rides FG. Been doing FG for about six weeks (I'm a rookie). Totally impressed with it. Such a beautiful, simple thing. Built my bike on an old 4130 frame. Took the advice of this forum and put on front and rear brakes. So tell me why most FG's that have brakes only have one and have it on the front. Thx. Bike for Peace!!!

you can slow down the rear with your legs, brake the front with your hands. like having two brakes (almost) and its cleaner than running a long cable down a nice simple frame

Even with two brakes on you will find 2 things to be the case. #1 the vast majority of your braking power comes from the front brake. #2 most of your speed control will eventually be done by your legs rather than the brakes. Take those two factors together and rear brakes are generally unnecessary for experienced riders on a fixed gear bike.

The two posts above me sums it up.
I thought this was going to be a "BRAKES MAN WHY" thread and came to troll.

I run fixed with a front and rear brake. You see... I ride hard... son.... and occasional **** gets a little sketchy when i'm breaking strava records, splitting lanes, or racing trains, and therefore front and rear brake.
No beard, huge chops, and the beautiful long hair of a lady. The gf complains of the hair... meh.
