Anodized Components (Another stolen Bob Jackson spin-off thread)
Hi,
Don't mean to rub salt into anyone's wounds, but I wanted to ask about anodized bike components. I figured it deserved a new thread. I love the look of the components on Caroline's bike. Especially the hubs and rims. I was wondering if anyone knows if they're one-off runs by the manufacturer? Or if people buy standard components and take them to a 3rd party to be anodized? I would love some white deep rims, and perhaps even some white or red hubs. http://dons.usfca.edu/choca4/pink_hubs.jpg |
velocity makes white rims.
i know that at least two sets of the hubs were made, don't know if they're going to be in regular production. why don't you ask them? http://www.philwood.com/pcontacts.htm |
I thought perhaps people were anodizing components themselves? (I wouldn't know even know if this is possible, hence this thread). |

is it possible to anodize things white? I'm would think those rims are painted or powdercoated.

I emailed Velocity but they haven't responded either. Their web site would indicate they don't do Deep V's in white (700c)? |
Don't think it's possible to do a white ano job.
Definitely a powdercoat. Just get some fine sandpaper and sand the rim so the paint stucks and spray it white. OR After you sand it down you can prob take it to an autobody shop and get it painted for cheap. A friend had his frame done for 35 bucks. |
i hope shes not reading this.. cause it would prob. jsut make her feel bad.. but.. that bike was so super nice.. i found myself just staring at the pic for way too long.. ever read the birthmark by nathanial hawthorne? well.. the jist is.. if you make something so perfect.. it becomes heavenly and is no longer able to remain planted on terra firma.. this bike might have floated away like the girl in that story...

I'm just hoping somebody out in Oakland or wherever finds the nutsack responsible and does a little Hulk-a-mania on the guy.
|
I think those wheels look a little tacky, especially on such a classic, traditional frameset.
