A little while ago I started a thread seeking advice on finding a fram for my new Fixed winter build. Now that it's done I'd like to share my build and see other people's fixed or single speed winter bikes. I'll show you mine if you show me YOURS!

Build Notes:

• Hand Built Nishiki Frame with Dimension 700c Cantilever fork
• Velo-Orange Grand Cru Sealed cartridge bearing headset and BB to keep the winter grime out.
• Black CR18 with Black Nashbar Fixed/Free hubset, black spokes and nipples.
• Panaracer t-serve 28s for now, Inova studded 35s when the snow flies
• E-A 19t cog/DA lockring,
• Bontrager 175 cranks (36t I think I haven't counted) give a lower gearing than my regular street fix. I chose these parts based on what was on hand, but I think the gearing came out just about right.
• Really cool stem with internal routing/pulley for brake cable
• black ano risers
• pretty nice seratpost
• Wright W3n Saddle (would like to change out for an Avocet racing if I can find one)
• Cetma 5 Rail front rack
• Delta rear rack
• Planet Bike Hardcore fenders
• PB blinkies and copious reflectors, because in the winter here it's dark more than it's light.

This was mine for a couple of years until @thewilson traded me a cup of coffee and a 30-pack of High Life for it. :D

Nice one! Looks pretty clean for a winter bike. I don't think mine will be that pretty once there is snow on the ground. It'll get hosed off in the spring, but I leave a protective layer of ice and grime in the winter and leave it outside so the ice can't melt. Washing it just promotes rust, and lets water seep into bad places.

Vintage Viscount steel frame, Nitto randonneur-bend bars with CLB guidonnet brake levers (easy to grab with mittens), Sturmey-Archer S3X hub, Pasela Tourguard tires, SKS mudguards.

You are happy with the tourgards on the ice?

no studs in this thread yet.... I'll be updating this thread in a couple of weeks when I switch over.

Mine will go on in the next few weeks. I hate riding on studs, so I hold out as long as I can.

Old GT Outpost. Studs, fenders, low gearing, and bright paint (to help them locate my body). It is a tank, but lots of fun.

I wish it would snow here in PDX but all we get is awful rain so here's my bike, I usually will wear shoe covers + tights with a rain jacket. Only water that touches me is my sweat.

Agreed. it sucks riding on clean pavement with studs.

That's a Surly CrossCheck covered in different colors of reflective tape. The lugs are not real. ;)

3 speed fg hub will resume duty once i put the new gear cartridge in, and winter is in full effect, right now its 1x6

all those bikes are sweet,,I was going to build my own fixie,,but seemed like it would cost too much and I never rode a fixie before. Thought I should try it first before I spent a ton of money.

So I found this Pure Fix bike the guy bought it and never rode it,,I paid 150, sells new online for 299. Well I just love it, I am 60 and am a little worried about my knees lol. I rode it 20 miles this morning for the third time. I ride all winter and will ride it every time it is dry. The snowy and wet days I have a Schwinn Spitfire 5 I will ride.

This is good motivation for me. I have a surly 1 x 1 that needs to be built up!

Not specifically a winter bike, more of an all weather, all seasons bike, I ride it both as a FG and a SS with the same 21T rear cog on both sides of the hub. The tires are Panaracer Pasela TG folding, 700x32c front and 700x35c rear:

Always run studs once the road freezes.
