Online Store
I am looking for a good site for some parts for my fixed gear, chain, tires, and some NITTO bars. They only place that I have seen with a good site is Harris Cyclery. What else is out there?
I have considered LBS but don't want to pay LBS $$$ in nyc. How are TrackStar prices? |

i've ordered from ben's in the past with good results, but...
though i haven't even received my order yet, i already like the service from Track King on ebay. their prices are about average or a few bucks cheaper than other ebay sellers (ben's bike, for instance), but they take paypal (which is about the only way i'll buy or sell, these days - ben's does not) and offer free shipping on most smaller parts, which seals the deal. i think i ended up paying $5 to ship my whole order - bars, pedals, clips, straps, and grips. not a huge deal, but from other sellers, that stuff would have been $5 each to ship (or more like $10 for the bars), so it adds up. terrie was also very receptive to my inquiries, answered promptly and even ordered a handlebar i wanted which the store had not previously stocked. that's enough to win my business. |
I've also had good success with track king. And I like the fact that he takes paypal and also that he doesn't beat you up on shipping charges. Last time I ordered several sets of MKS pedals from Ben's and they insisted on charging me like $5 per set of pedals for shipping.... and Ben's doesn't take paypal which is my preferred method of paying for things these days.

go to trackstar. support local business when you can, that's my motto. their prices are pretty much the same as anywhere else, if you factor in the nyc inflation.

What? The prices are higher? Well, don't they support your local track culture? Doesn't that make it worth the few extra dollars? America is too wealthy for us to be so stingy. It all comes back to you one way or another. Hey- if you don't want a healthy local culture, don't support your local shops. But that seems like a crappy way to live. If you have local shops that support the "track/fixie culture"- SUPPORT THEM! You don't live in a vacuum... And you're not going to die tomorrow if you spend $2 more on a cog, etc. We're all living in relative luxury already. What we all need is good, healthy local culture! Be thankful for what you have and contribute to make it better. Where would bikeforums.net be without people willing to contribute? Ain't no free lunch, brothers and sisters. |
IRO cycles is a great shop specializing in fixed/ss. Tony (the main man) is helpful, patient, and generally a stand up guy. More than anything, everything they make is an incredible value.
[edit] BTW: they're in Staten Is. |
speaking of local shops, check out Dave over at BikeworksNYC:

Thanks for the info. I like to do my research before I buy anything. If I choose to go to my LBS I liked to go in with some idea of what I am buying. As some of you might have experienced the people at your LBS are not always the best for bike info. I may head over to TrackStar this weekend since I have been there before.
