What's this hub?!
4 Attachment(s)
Hey all. Got some wheels, two Formula rims with black spokes. $130 off CL. The hubs have no markings at all though. The rear has two cogs, one single speed one fixed. They're high flange and red... Any idea of what they are?http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=351076http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=351077http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=351078http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=351079 I figured they might be part of a standard set you guys have seen before.

look like formula hubs to me

My guess is Quando or some other cheap off brand hub
|
Those aren't Formula rims, they're Freedom rims, as the logos posted state. Hubs don't look like formulas, however. Long story short they're some cheap brand whose name doesn't make much of a difference.

Formula doesn't make rims. The hubs look like Novatecs, which are decent quality if they have cartridge bearings.

When I bought my first of those hubs, in 2006, in a pre-built wheel, they were called Dimension hubs. They're different from the Formula hubs in that the cutouts on each side all "point" in the same direction.
I bought one in 2008, and ride that one regularly. The 2006 one lives in my parents' garage and is ridden for a week or so every year when I visit. Both are still very nice. Strangely enough, both of my hubs have a hollow axle ready for either a track nut or a skewer. So a bit different, in a way. |
Great - thanks! The rear hub is actually playing up, it's running a little gritty. These seem like a nightmare to open and clean, or replace bearings on. Has anyone had any luck with that?

Just change the bearings. They're cartridge bearings, no use trying to clean them, really. |
DIY bearing replacement. http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...ur-formula-hub
