I'm in the market for a set of 130mm bcd track cranks for a fixed-gear bike. The TA Piste cranks seem like a good choice, but I've heard rumblings of chainline problems. I'm replacing the cranks in an effort to correct a bad chainline. (I'm using a cheap set of Shimano 105 doubles and have moved the chainring to the inside of the spider - not pretty and not a straight chainline either.) I'd use a BB with some chainline adjustment, but I'm told the TA's can be way out (3-5mm off their mfg. stated 43.5-45mm). I already have that problem and am not looking to spend $300 on new cranks and BB to replicate it. It seems Stronglight also makes track cranks in 130mm BCD. ( I have a new TA chainring that I'm trying to save. Otherwise I'd go to a 144mm BCD crankset and know that my chain would be straight.) Anyone have issues/opinions/experience with the TA or Stronglight cranks?

TA's have a chainline of 45-46mm if i remember correctly
they're exactly the same as the TA Alize road cranks with the rear lip milled off.
i'm not sure about the stronglights.

Couldn't you take it to a bike shop, and let them figure out which length spincle is going to correct your chainline? I thought chainline had more to do with the BB than the cranks. But I don't blame you for want the TA cranks. Those things are hot.

the TA's already use a 103mm spindle to get the 45mm chainline. I don't think you can get any narrower.

I have the TA cranks and have been very happy with them. As to the chainline I let my mech figure it out. I had been drinking at the time

I have the T/A cranks. I'm no chainline expert but everything works fine and looks good. Sweet cranks, they are quicker and stronger (gasp!) than my mid 90s Campy Record (which I sold). Very sturdy BB as well with more seals than Phil, and I got the cranks in the size I wanted, 172.5 for my fixie commuter. Reasonably light too, a little over 800 grams for bb/crankset (incl. rings, bolts, etc.). Not bad for a steel axle. I'm pleased with them. Very. www.peterwhitecycles.com. He has them.
